Vila goes into a bar and meets...
6 Oct 2014 04:53 pmAny suggestions?
I've got one fandom. I need two or three more.
I have now written over 6000 words for my Finishathon story, which is over halfway there. And if that's not enough work, I want to draw a poster for it if I get the time.
I really should claim at least one Multiverse prompt as well, especially since I submitted several. I shall have to see what leaps out at me and isn't too close to the Finishathon end date.
Thirdly, have a link to some stunning pictures of Saturn and its moons.
I've pretty much got the whole B7 take on Some Like It Hot (pax,
executrix) set out in my head. Now I just have to write it all down which is the hard part. I've done about 2000 words so far.
After the Finishathon, there will be Multiverse 2009 after all, as
andrastewhite unexpectedly has the time to run another. This time there are no assignments and story swaps; people just submit as many prompts as they like, from which authors can choose. Submit your cracked space show crossover prompts here. :-)

I should point out that Finishathon voting is open. I am somehow not surprised to see that Avon and Vila in an all-female band is leading for me, but if anyone else wants to vote on which story I should write, my voting page is here.

I signed up for
alterego_thon, the pastiche challenge, and we had to post an excerpt this weekend. The deadline is so far away, of course I didn't even start writing till today, operating as usual on the 'just in time' manufacturing principle. I'm doing Blake's 7 characters on Gauda Prime done with much of the plot and--I hope--the style of Swallows and Amazons by Arthur Ransome. His character Roger is so like Vila, I couldn't resist.
Here's my excerpt, which is the opening scene.

So now I'm back at work and the weather's been glorious both days: sunny, summery, and still. Thanks, Auckland. Why didn't you deliver that last week? Never mind, I'm just grateful it only rained one day.
I went to the Kings Garden Centre after work today to buy a pot plant as a gift, and they have a resident cat. She came up to me and I gave her my hand to sniff before I stroked her and she was so impressed with my cat manners, she followed me round the place until I found a plant I to buy. :-)
There are only three more days to go till my finishathon story is due and this is the closest I've come to defaulting on a ficathon after more than two weeks of failing to write any of it. [worries] At last I know where it's going, but I'm not sure I have time to get there. Even if I take a shortcut, this one will probably not be beta-read. :-(

3daychallenge is up and running again. You have three days to write about (or draw etc) your character(s) mixed with water. You add your contribution as a comment with details in the subject line.
I took the opportunity to write a rather sad piece about Vila that's been in my head for months since "Blowing in the Wind" came up on my MP3 player while I was driving in the rain. Yes, it's song fic, but since this challenge is about water and I need to write something for the
fanfic100 'rain' prompt anyway, I decided to exorcise it.
How Many?
Speaking of
fanfic100: I'm getting there. I'm up to 79. OK, I'm using Vila stories I already wrote, but I'd take forever otherwise and I've got other stories I need to write.

After realising that Hiro Nakamura of Heroes makes the perfect crossover character with his ability to travel in space and time (and without a blue police box), and getting two prompt and enthusiastic responses to the suggestion of a ficathon ... I have decided to run one!
It's at
hirothon.
The rules (few and simple) are in the user info and the signup post (edited to be simpler) is here.
Please pimp this to your flists, anyone you think might be interested, and in any Heroes communities.
[bows] Thank you!

This sounds like a fun ficathon:
alterego_thon. To quote their user info,
This ficathon is based on the idea that you write your fandom-of-choice with a plot based on or paralleling a film/novel/play. The idea is to keep your fandom characters as close to their original selves as possible, but place them in a different plot and setting. The cast of Stargate SG-1 set to the story of A Knight’s Tale? Or you can keep them in their usual setting but having the plot worked in. What about the cast of House playing out 10 Things I Hate About You / Taming of the Shrew at PPTH? The variations are endless! There are no prompts for this ficathon so you are free to choose your details.Other excellent points in its favour are the long sign-up time (until 31 August), long writing time, and three months in which to post (1 January - 1 April 2008).
