Mixed bag

So now I'm back at work and the weather's been glorious both days: sunny, summery, and still. Thanks, Auckland. Why didn't you deliver that last week? Never mind, I'm just grateful it only rained one day.

I went to the Kings Garden Centre after work today to buy a pot plant as a gift, and they have a resident cat. She came up to me and I gave her my hand to sniff before I stroked her and she was so impressed with my cat manners, she followed me round the place until I found a plant I to buy. :-)

There are only three more days to go till my finishathon story is due and this is the closest I've come to defaulting on a ficathon after more than two weeks of failing to write any of it. [worries] At last I know where it's going, but I'm not sure I have time to get there. Even if I take a shortcut, this one will probably not be beta-read. :-(

If you end up needing a really fast last-minute beta, let me know. It looks like I've actually got a lot of free time this week, so I might be able to accommodate ya. :)

That would be great! At this rate it won't be till my Friday though and I think that's when they're due. Actually I'd be very happy with one after the fact if it comes to that so I can at least correct any errors before I link the page to anywhere else on my site. :-)

Actually, they're due Friday night GMT, which makes it Saturday morning for you and me.

Ah. That doesn't help much though because I'm away all weekend. I think I'll be putting in some late nights.

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2007-10-30 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm sure I could at least do that. :)

Good luck!

Thanks! I'm feeling a bit more optimistic today because I've got a lot further on. :-P

This story originally only had a handful of scenes which is why I hadn't started it let alone finished it, but it now has an actual plot and some mayhem. Pity it took so long to come to me.

Mind you, it might be too summery for your taste this week. :-) It's time to break the fans out and I'd be lazing in the hammock after work if I didn't have to finish this story. However it's only this week that the ideas have come, and there are too many of them. :-P

[identity profile] azdak.livejournal.com 2007-10-30 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I imagine finishathons must be the hardest kind to write for, because there's usually a reason why a fic is languishing unfinished, and if it was easy to solve the problem, then it wouldn't be languishing unfinished...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-10-30 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes. In the case of this one, I didn't know how it would end after the first few scenes, but I have some good ideas now--just too many of them and not enough time. :-P

The others I fielded for selection (people vote for them) are respectively almost finished, half finished, and not started but threatening to be a novella so I'm glad that one wasn't picked.

[identity profile] azdak.livejournal.com 2007-10-30 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
not started but threatening to be a novella

That one sounds like you should enter it for a startathon ;-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-10-30 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
None of the three finishathons I've entered have involved a story I'd actually started. :-P

When this one's done, I plan to finish the other two, then reward myself with the alteregothon one, Rebels and Amagons which is going to be so much fun, it will be a writing holiday. :-D

[identity profile] azdak.livejournal.com 2007-10-30 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Gosh, I'm seriously impressed by your dedication! I only ever write things I want to write (though I agree that the alteregothon has been a total blast to write for).

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-10-30 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
But I want to write these stories; they're in my head waiting to come out. I just happen to find it so much easier to write comedy which the alteregothon story will be. [note to self: add more comedy to the Star Trek one]

[identity profile] azdak.livejournal.com 2007-10-30 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! More comedy is always a good thing!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-10-30 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
This current angstfest hasn't much room for it. Perhaps I can fit some biting Avon and Vila snark in when they've both recovered a little.

[identity profile] kalinda001.livejournal.com 2007-10-30 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Why didn't you deliver that last week?
I'm sure that's one of Murphy's Laws.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-10-30 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
It's now morning and another absolutely perfect day which I have to spend inside. Feh. Still, I prefer it to rain; it's very cheering even through glass.

[identity profile] daiseechain.livejournal.com 2007-10-30 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
You are obviously a well trained catisan.

Sometimes it's okay not to finish things.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-10-30 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
The thing is, if I let myself go I mightn't finish anything. I need deadlines and I let this one get too close. And it's a matter of pride: I haven't defaulted before. :-P It took me this long though to know what was going to happen in the story.
