So many socks!
It's not that I've been too lazy to post, but that there haven't been many questions I could answer with more than a word or two, and sometimes that word was just yes or no.
19. How many pairs of socks do you own?
47 (just counted them on Ravelry), all ones I've handknitted because I hate commercial socks which have horrible and unnecessary seams across the toes which dig in, cuffs that are often too tight, and lack of stay-up-ness. My own knitted socks win on all three scores. But yikes, I had no idea I had that many.
22. Are you a cat person or a dog person?
Haha, need you ask? I do like dogs too, and we always had both when I was growing up, but cats always fascinated me, little furry aliens.
27. Have you ever been boating?
Many times: mostly yachting but also white-water rafting and a little rowing. I wouldn't mind giving kayaking a go.

I'm impressed that you've knitted that many socks! I have only managed, so far, to loom-knit one pair of slipper-socks, and they turned out too big for my feet. Any advice about sock-knitting?

I don't wear bed socks but I sometimes wear slipper-socks (that is, not in bed, but wandering around the house socks). I shall have to look up the Russian bind off. I've had people suggest the Icelandic bind off too.
Definitely a trade-off with the yarn thickness; the finer yarn takes forever, but it is more comfortable on the foot.

Very Pink Knits is good. I haven't come across the other two. Thanks!

For socks, I found the fish-lips-kiss-heel pattern very useful as you make a cardboard foot template for custom fitting. It's only $1 (still, I think) and very verbose, but invaluable.

Oh, interesting. Because it's so hard to estimate where to start the heel and such so that it fits. Which is why my current plan is to make some heel-less spiral tube socks - it's not that I consider heels to be too difficult to make, it's just making them fit my feet which is the problem.

I see it's gone up in price to $2.49 USD, but so worth it.

Thanks!

Oh, I've seen that video! She didn't call it the Russian bind-off, though. I'm confused.

Or did you mean to link to this video instead? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxD-OJAk9-8

Okay, I'm even more confused - those two bind-offs are very similar but not exactly the same.

Thank you!

I also grew up with cats and dogs and I love both, but for me at this time of life cats are more practical.
Boating of any kind is fun. Most of mine has been canal boats and rowing boats and the occasional ferry ;)

I didn't count ferries as I thought boating was more the messing about on the water kind.

I used to love going on 24 hour ferry "cruises" over the channel to France. You could enjoy a meal on board, catch the entertainment and look at the stars from the deck. Then sleep on board, dock in France and have time for a short trip to a mega supermarket to pick up wine and cheese before sailing back to Dover. Not quite the same as messing about on a canal boat but fun all the same.

I've lived in Israel, England, and Germany (the longest - 3 years) but wonder if I'll ever make it back due to cost and horribly long flights. The bach will have to do.

It's the same here, we are probably the least right-wing of most of the European countries and can't see the extremists getting power here, possibly because we have a first past the post voting system...never say never, though!

Oh that's a brilliant idea, adding a tab to pull the sock on with!

I am on Ravelry, yes, thank you.

If you've done short rows, it's pretty easy - just use whatever method you prefer: wrap and turn, German double-stitch, twin stitch (the one that worked best for this).

I get sea sickness so even with stuff that helps this, I try and avoid boats.

I'm allergic to something down here as I have to take Lorafix pills, I had such bad hayfever. Maybe local agriculture chemicals? And I thought I'd be healthier away from Auckland. At least it's usually drier.

Sorry you had bad hayfever. Spring was a bit rough for me up here.

I've only been airsick once, and that was on the last flight into Wellington in 120kph gales - and I wasn't alone. The attendants were walking down the aisle handing out extra pike bags. Otherwise I'm fine on planes, apart from the general illogical nervousness, cars being much more dangerous.

We had dogs right up until just before I left home. I never thought I would be without a dog but I am much more of a cat person now
