vilakins: (dr who jelly babies)

I finally finished my Doctor Who scarf yesterday with three days to spare (the knit-a-long finshes with the year). It's a modified pattern in which I used Fibonacci numbers, rounding down if they were odd, so all the stripes are 8, 12, 20, or 34 rows. This also made it the length I wanted, just to my knees. I'm enough of a klutz not to want anything more I can trip over.

Two pictures, one of extreme dorkiness )

First it was a Dalek, but now someone kniited a Firefly! OK, who has a pattern for the Liberator? ;-)

I watch an artist's community, and one of the members has just put up artwork for the cover of a soon-to-be fan-published Firefly cookbook. You can see Jayne's hat off to the side, and weapons and ammo on the table with the food, and there are strawberries. Brilliant! Scroll down the comments for a drawing of Jayne reading a comic book; apparently there's a fan-produced one coming out later this year.

If you want to know more about the cookbook, have a look at Big Damn Chefs (love the name). For a list of some very interesting-sounding food, check out the book preview.

I think this will especially interest [livejournal.com profile] executrix. :-) [livejournal.com profile] megpie71 has written an excellent resolution of B7 and Firefly canon, combining the two universes. Crossovers ahoy!

Just discovered via an SF mailing list: Serenity done by hand-puppets which look surprisingly like the cast, given their simplicity. See Mal shirtless! But don't go there unless you've seen the film. Massive spoilers doesn't begin to describe it.

There's a lot of good stuff but I loved this bit (in plain text).

Wash: Uggh, there is absolutely nothing good about the ship's new paint job.
Reavers: Identification, please.
Serenity: You don't need to see our identification.
Reavers: We don't need to see their identification.
Serenity: This isn't the Firefly crew you're looking for.

Serenity: We can go about our business.
Reavers: You can go about your business.
Serenity: Move along.
Reavers: Move along, move along!
Wash: ...Okay, I take that back.
Yeah, all right, I love those old Star Wars films. Speaking of which, their other movies are worth a look too: LOTR, Harry Potter, The Matrix, Star Wars, Spider-Man, X-Men...

OK, now it's a new day and I'm not so tired, I thought I'd marshal some more coherent thoughts about Serenity.

Well, I saw Serenity, not that it was even the same ship. I should have gone with my first instincts.

I'm enjoying Firefly at a glacial pace--except for the bloody reavers. What's wrong with ordinary everyday evil like oppressive governments and experimentation on human subjects that they have to make me feel physically ill too? And if Mal knew what would happen to that guy in 'Bushwhacked', why didn't he shoot him or space him? It would have saved a lot of trouble and a few lives; admittedly people he regards as enemy though. :-) I did like them hiding Simon and River outside, and that River enjoyed it.

Is there a good Firefly site anyone can recommend?

[Edit] Have now found two sites: a cool Wiki one thanks to [livejournal.com profile] spacefall, and a fan site about which I can see what [livejournal.com profile] communicator means--the design's a bit dense and headache-inducing.

And hey, I like this new update style too, with everything I want to change in one screen. Change is Good, as long as it's for the better.
