30 Days Of Fan Fiction: Day 1

A couple of other people are doing this meme, and it's the first of those 30-day ones that has appealed.

1 – How did you first get into writing fanfic, and what was the first fandom you wrote for? What do you think it was about that fandom that pulled you in?

I've been writing for most of my life, having at age five written a series of stories, devoid of any moral, called The Adventures of Naughty Amelia. As I could read already and was bored, they used to send me to other classes to read chapters when the teacher was called away. At 12 or so I wrote two novels in exercise books, one a boarding school story (very much based on the school I was at), and the other (unfinished) about three children trapped in France when the Germans invaded.

Fanfic though? A lot of my unwritten stories, run in my head like films, were very derivative, the Gormenghast novel series and Star Wars being major influences, and I often mentally rewrote the endings of stories or TV series when I didn't lie them. Why yes, Blake's 7 was one of those. When I watched it again in 2001 when it was rerun here, I'd made up so many alternative endings as a teenager, I wasn't sure what the real one was when I got to it, just that I knew I didn't like it.

So yes, my first written-down fanfic was Blake's 7, to no-one's surprise, and it was Vila and how it all ended for him that pulled me in. It wasn't a Gauda Prime fix-it though, not as such though it included one. It was Vila Restal's E-mails, running through the whole series. I thought if maybe six people read them, I'd have won. Then I found the B7 mailing lists and an audience there which was very encouraging, and some of them got me to join LJ.
