vilakins: Vila with stars superimposed (friends)

Snurched from [livejournal.com profile] zoefruitcake, this was fun: Guess that friend. It brings up a selected number of random but recent friend's entries and you guess who wrote them. The person talking about penguins wasn't the obvious choice but I did OK:

You have a total of 46 friends
You asked to guess 10 entries.
None was skipped due to invalid content (surprising?)
You made 10 guesses.
You got 9 correct.
Doing the math for you, that means you got 90% correct.
I think 'invalid content' means an entry was locked, and I resent the implication that we can't do the maths.

Vila guessed 100% of his. In-character LJs are much easier. :-)

These are from several people. In the first one I got the result at least two wanted (though I had to do a tie-breaker out of four equal results).

Which Discworld character am I like? )

And which kind of cat am I? )

OK, here's another one, this one from [livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2's blog feed [livejournal.com profile] maximumverbosit. You can tell it's the weekend and I'm stuck inside on a stormy day, can't you? :-P

Another "fun with Google" meme. Type in "[your name here] needs" and let google tell you what it is you need. Post the top ten, or just the funny ones.
Nico needs (my comment in brackets):
  1. a new vet. (One that opens Sundays would be good; that's when my cats decide they need one.)
  2. your help. (But I pride myself on my independence!)
  3. no introduction. (Hey, thanks!)
  4. a new home. (Preferably one without a leaking roof.)
  5. more motivation to behave like other kids. (But I don't want to!)
  6. to talk. (Eep. Makes me sound like someone on an American TV program. People on those always 'need to tock' i.e. stick the knife into someone else.)
  7. a mum, not a martyr. (Oh, yes. Because when she was alive, I had enough with the "I gave birth to you, you owe me" and "other mothers have nicer children" shtick.)
  8. special fuel. (Yep--protein, veg, and fruit please, hold the carbo)
  9. to travel to Europe. (Yay! Germany and the UK are actually on the cards this year)
  10. some prayers. (Um, that's always nice!)

Powerless

vilakins: Vila in cold-weather clothes looking unhappy (weather)

I'm down at the library as the storm just took out the power in several suburbs (with a worrying distant explosion.) I have no idea how long it will be out--or indeed whether my PC will be OK when it comes back) so I've been driven out into the weather in search of temporary (and surpisingly cheap) internet access, books to read, and hot food. I hope it's back by the time it's dark or I'll have to make a surprise visit to someone. Sitting in the dark playing 'animal, vegetable, or mineral' holds limited appeal.

Have I mentioned how much I hate weathery weather?

I'm back and I have power! It wasn't all bad being forced out though: I acquired a good library book (Atwood's Oryx and Crake), a DIY 2006 calendar for me to B7-ise (for the third year running), a calculator with bright pink keys for work (no one will steal it, and part of the cost goes to breast cancer research) and hot Indian food (in both senses) though they were out of samosas, dammit, and a gas-powered lamp to go with my gas camping cooker, just in case.

And just to give this post some content, here's a very cool site: www.thinkgeek.com. They have fun things like light-sabres, red Swingline staplers (far too good to jelly), pixel blocks (someone made a penguin!) and a t-shirt [livejournal.com profile] redstarrobot might like. I'll probably get Greg his next present from the gadgets page. I love the Swiss memory USB.
