My slippers; let me show you them

I watched more Babylon 5 last night: Londo crawling drunk on the table, bum in the air, and claiming to be cute--and stunning in purple; a Centauri goddess of passion--but with tentacles, so surely hermaphrodite; the kick-arse Na'Toth's entrance; Ivanova being her awesome self... I really have to add Ivanova to my list of favourite characters where she can join Vila as a rare human.

Today I went to the local pet supermarket to buy a bag of Hills Science Diet and found it comes with free slippers at the moment. Behold: my first (and doubtless last) pair of animal slippers.

I usually wear ug boots, but they're sort of cute. They even have different faces and personalities but I haven't decided which is right and which is left. The little thing sticking out behind which I thought was a tab for hanging them? Vestigial tail.

I'm not yet sure how the cats will like them, though Tessa sniffed their noses. I still prefer the ug boots for comfort though.

Oh and Cadbury has some new chocolate flavours out. The tiramisu is delicious, and I see by the shelf labels that there's a crème brulee flavour but it's out of stock. I must try that too.

Those are cute. My darling cat of many years ago, Emily, was half-siamese and had crossed eyes. She really couldn't see very well at all, and thought the bear claw slippers my husband got for Christmas one year were somekind of monster. She never got over their odd appearance and hissed at them everytime she came across them.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-06-11 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
Aww, poor wee thing. I'll have to see what our cats think when I'm wearing them.

BTW these have rather Siamese eyes, being blue.

Wow, advanced capitalism throws up some really strange phenomena. I mean, they're definitely sweet slippers, but when you think about, it's bizarre to pay money for cat food and end up with a pair of slippers deigned to look not very like some kind of animal.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-06-11 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
Well, they were free and I wasn't going to turn them down. They were on display by the cat food, presumably to get people to buy, but I didn't see them and was getting the biscuits anyway.

I've seen a lot of animal slippers around and never really fancied them on my feet, but hey. Actually they don't look bad at a different angle; they do actually have cat mouths and whiskers.

But as I said, I prefer wearing my ug boots.

[identity profile] azdak.livejournal.com 2008-06-11 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
Well, they were free and I wasn't going to turn them down.

No, of course not. It's just that when you start thinking about how some factory went to all the effort and expense of manufacturing them, in order that they be given away (and presumably the idea is that some people were actually swayed to buy the cat food by the prospect of getting a free pair of slippers)... I don't know, it just strikes me as strange. It wouldn't happen under any other economic system.

I don't know what ug boots are, but the name alone makes them sound comfortable and anti-fashion, so I approve;-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-06-11 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
Ug boots are indeed comfortable. They originated here and in Australia. Here's a picture of some (http://www.newzealandsheepskins.com/images/sheepskinbootsrange4.jpg). My winter slippers are exactly like the ones on the far left, warm and comfy with nice thick soles for going outside without changing. I fancy a taller pair--as boots, not slippers--like the ones in the middle, but in chocolate brown.

Yes, I got my lovely warm ones from http://www.nznature.co.nz/ (which I think is the same people). One warning, though; I got black ones, and I suspect that the chocolate-brown ones will have the same problem: if you wear them with bare feet (rather than having socks on) then if you wear them too long, your feet get stained. It's because the wool lining is dyed, rather than kept at the natural colour.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-06-11 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
That's where I shop--nice place. I got my bamboo t-shirts there.

I never wear socks in mine, but they have natural white lining. Thanks for the tip! I still fancy the chocolate ones though; they're on my list for when I feel I can reward myself with them.

I shouldn't have looked over there; I saw too many tempting things, like Possum-fur slippers and sheepskin slipper-socks.

I still wear my black ones without socks, because they're so easy and nice to slip on on a cold winter morning. But if I were going to wear them all day, I'd have to put socks on, or become Kathryn Blackfoot. But it's so handy to have ugh boots with proper soles (rather than flimsy slippers) in case one has to go outside for some reason.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-06-11 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly! That's why I like them so.

Chocolate would also look smarter for outside wear than the sand ones I wear around the house. They last for years too.

[identity profile] azdak.livejournal.com 2008-06-11 08:09 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes! They look terrific!

[identity profile] zoefruitcake.livejournal.com 2008-06-11 08:41 am (UTC)(link)
bizarre, but strangely cute :0)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-06-11 08:48 am (UTC)(link)
They are! I laughed when I was given them. I have friends with animal slippers, but I've always felt ambivalent about putting my feet in a poor creature's head.

Ivanova truly is awesome :)

I haven't seen those new choccy flavours! I have been looking out for the Lindt chili, but no luck so far.

They're bringing one out? I'll have to keep an eye out for it. I think they had a very strong orange I hadn't seen before.

These are part of the dessert filling range. I'm not that impressed with the others--the lemon one's the best though not one I buy--however the tiramisu is a real success, with me anyway. I adore crème brulee so I'll have give that a go.

Yes, someone on my flist mentioned it a while ago, and I had it in my head that it was you. Maybe it was [livejournal.com profile] sallymn?

Now you mention it, yes, I have seen the dessert Cadbury's; I just hadn't been paying attention until now :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-06-11 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure but it wasn't me. :-)

Everyone has different taste, but this is the first one I've really liked.

[identity profile] snowgrouse.livejournal.com 2008-06-11 10:23 am (UTC)(link)
Aww, those are super-cute:).

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-06-11 10:35 am (UTC)(link)
They are! Maybe they can be my spring and autumn slippers. They can only be worn inside due to their soft soles.

If the girls were younger, they'd savage the little tails. ;-)

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2008-06-11 10:42 am (UTC)(link)
I've never really understood the idea of animal slippers, and I'm not sure I'd want any myself, but they *are* cute!

Mmm, I'll have to see whether they're doing the new chocolates here...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-06-11 10:59 am (UTC)(link)
I've never got it either, but how could I turn them down? They're cats!

They're part of the 'dessert range' (filled chocolate, like caramello is) which includes lemon cheesecake, chocolate brownie, boysenberry shortcake, banoffi pie etc. I wasn't impressed with those--lemon was the best--but the tiramisu is divine, the first one I considered to be a success. A chocolate blog I found said the crème brulee is spot on so I'm looking forward to it being back in stock. They were on special because they're new and I got the last tiramisu. Num!

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2008-06-11 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, thank you - I'll have to do some investigating... It's going to be hard work, trying these things, but it has to be done.

[identity profile] jaxomsride.livejournal.com 2008-06-11 10:45 am (UTC)(link)
The Centauri Goddess is not hermaphrodite just displaying her Attributes - They feature in another Babylon 5 episode so I won't say further.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-06-11 10:59 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, but it's the men who have them, and I do remember the poker game well.

[identity profile] jaxomsride.livejournal.com 2008-06-11 11:02 am (UTC)(link)
I think the ladies have them as well though considering some of the outfits they wear you wonder where they put them!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-06-11 11:09 am (UTC)(link)
Really? I thought they just had, um, slots.

[identity profile] toft-froggy.livejournal.com 2008-06-12 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
Those are TERRIFYING. There is madness in their eyes.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-06-12 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, they're very round for a cat.
