My slippers; let me show you them

I watched more Babylon 5 last night: Londo crawling drunk on the table, bum in the air, and claiming to be cute--and stunning in purple; a Centauri goddess of passion--but with tentacles, so surely hermaphrodite; the kick-arse Na'Toth's entrance; Ivanova being her awesome self... I really have to add Ivanova to my list of favourite characters where she can join Vila as a rare human.

Today I went to the local pet supermarket to buy a bag of Hills Science Diet and found it comes with free slippers at the moment. Behold: my first (and doubtless last) pair of animal slippers.


I usually wear ug boots, but they're sort of cute. They even have different faces and personalities but I haven't decided which is right and which is left. The little thing sticking out behind which I thought was a tab for hanging them? Vestigial tail.

I'm not yet sure how the cats will like them, though Tessa sniffed their noses. I still prefer the ug boots for comfort though.

Oh and Cadbury has some new chocolate flavours out. The tiramisu is delicious, and I see by the shelf labels that there's a crème brulee flavour but it's out of stock. I must try that too.

Wow, advanced capitalism throws up some really strange phenomena. I mean, they're definitely sweet slippers, but when you think about, it's bizarre to pay money for cat food and end up with a pair of slippers deigned to look not very like some kind of animal.

Well, they were free and I wasn't going to turn them down. They were on display by the cat food, presumably to get people to buy, but I didn't see them and was getting the biscuits anyway.

I've seen a lot of animal slippers around and never really fancied them on my feet, but hey. Actually they don't look bad at a different angle; they do actually have cat mouths and whiskers.

But as I said, I prefer wearing my ug boots.

No, of course not. It's just that when you start thinking about how some factory went to all the effort and expense of manufacturing them, in order that they be given away (and presumably the idea is that some people were actually swayed to buy the cat food by the prospect of getting a free pair of slippers)... I don't know, it just strikes me as strange. It wouldn't happen under any other economic system.

I don't know what ug boots are, but the name alone makes them sound comfortable and anti-fashion, so I approve;-)

Ug boots are indeed comfortable. They originated here and in Australia. Here's a picture of some (http://www.newzealandsheepskins.com/images/sheepskinbootsrange4.jpg). My winter slippers are exactly like the ones on the far left, warm and comfy with nice thick soles for going outside without changing. I fancy a taller pair--as boots, not slippers--like the ones in the middle, but in chocolate brown.

Yes, I got my lovely warm ones from http://www.nznature.co.nz/ (which I think is the same people). One warning, though; I got black ones, and I suspect that the chocolate-brown ones will have the same problem: if you wear them with bare feet (rather than having socks on) then if you wear them too long, your feet get stained. It's because the wool lining is dyed, rather than kept at the natural colour.

That's where I shop--nice place. I got my bamboo t-shirts there.

I never wear socks in mine, but they have natural white lining. Thanks for the tip! I still fancy the chocolate ones though; they're on my list for when I feel I can reward myself with them.

I shouldn't have looked over there; I saw too many tempting things, like Possum-fur slippers and sheepskin slipper-socks.

I still wear my black ones without socks, because they're so easy and nice to slip on on a cold winter morning. But if I were going to wear them all day, I'd have to put socks on, or become Kathryn Blackfoot. But it's so handy to have ugh boots with proper soles (rather than flimsy slippers) in case one has to go outside for some reason.

Exactly! That's why I like them so.

Chocolate would also look smarter for outside wear than the sand ones I wear around the house. They last for years too.
