Sebastian is 3

Sebastian turned 3 last week (going by a guessed birth date) so here are some pics of him taken over the last year. Like most black cats I've known, he's very sweet-natured and loving.

It's not that easy getting photos of a black cat and some of these were taken at night and consequently a bit grainy.

Sitting on the CD/DVD shelves with all his paws lined up. He and Jasmin use this spot as a way to get into human cuddle range.

"Come here and rub my tummy!"

In winter I keep a bag of scarves and fingerless mitts downstairs. One day I came in and flung my scarf in the bag and thought I saw it move. I assumed it was a trick of the light till a black head emerged.

The most recent one: Sebastian on the cat tree. All three like to lie on the platform (singly, not all together) when I'm reading in the armchair beside it. :-)

He's gorgeous, and looks like he's very good at making himself comfortable!

He is, and he's the cuddliest of the three. He spent this evening curled up against me and will probably sleep between us tonight (along with Jasmin the duvet-diver).

The strategic placement for cuddling is familiar, Tosca does that too. (And if I should walk past her without falling for it there's usually an indignant poke of a paw to compel me... :-)

How cute! A previous cat, Petra, used to lie in wait above head-level and launch herself at my shoulders. She was a cuddly darling, but sometimes it frightened the hell out of me when I wasn't expecting it.

Awww. He's such a love. My first cat was a black tom. Midnight was a sweetheart.

Black cats do seem to have very sweet dispositions. It's odd how personalities tend to go with fur colour, like torties being naughty (though I bet not as mischievous as Jasmin).

He's a handsome wee fellow. Our black cat is a sociable girl. Sometimes we do the nose-touch thing together. :-)

What a handsome boy he is. That wee tuft of white on his chest is adorable; it's like a little lace cravat :)

Oh, he is gorgeous. You've managed to catch him in many different non-blob-shaped poses! I like the deck picture a lot.

We are currently trying to plan our colours and things for a new house (aah, not moving again!) and we keep getting advice about decorating in neutrals, plus inheriting furniture in shades of grey or brown, and it's just depressing me that colours seem to be outlawed. Your bright blue chair and rainbow-striped cushions are absolutely beautiful and I am heartened to be reminded that colours do exist. How to make them happen in my new house, though...

The deck picture turned out really well! He almost looks like this icon from a drawing I did of him a couple of years ago.

I confess to having off-white walls and blinds, but that's so I can have colourful furniture and pictures on the walls without them being overpowering. How about getting some really bright cushions for your neutral furniture; it's amazing how flashes of colour perk a room up. Bright vases, artwork, and ornaments are other ideas. [looks around this room] Damn, time to water the plants.

He is! And so sweet and cuddly and affectionate. I was just watching TV with him curled up on my legs, and he sleeps between us at night.

I often say that this is the closest I'll get to having a panther, a lion, and a snow tiger. :-)

Awwww I grew up with two black cats so I have a reel soft spot for them :) He's just adorable!

We think they're a breed of their own!

He's a handsome lad - thanks for sharing the pics. He's very similar in shape and build to Diesel. I love the pic of him in the bag of scarves.

The cat in my icon is Bishop, the first black cat I had. He was a big, handsome fellow who had a way of tilting his head back slightly to give the impression of looking down his nose at you.

It was such a surprise to find him buried there! He didn't harm anything either.

Sebastian never looks superior, but Claudia sometimes had that look, though I'm sure she never meant it.

Smokey is meowing hello to his cousin Sebastian. I myself am sending Happy Birthday chin skritches, and admiration for how handsome Sebastian is. I especially like the second picture. :)

That pic turned out really well. All three cats were running about on the deck and most weren't that great but I caught him in a lucky shot there.

alas, that ours is very cross! never mind. he is loving in his own way.

My sister had a shy and even rather neurotic little black cat, but most I've come across have been very friendly. Greg's sister's late Marmite loved everyone, human or feline, and used to regularly invite 17 other cats in the neighbourhood to visit (not, I think, all at once) and I've never heard of that before.

Aw, the pics are beautiful! A belated happy birthday to the gentleman in question, then! :-)

I shall pass that on when he comes to cuddle up in bed! :-)

Happy 3rd Sebastian, what a handsome young cat! He looks so at home too. With that tiny white spot, he looks just like my Moritz, who is also very sweet natured (especially compared to his psycho kitty brother!)

My sister said he was too pretty to be a boy when he was a kitten. He does have a lovely face to match his nature, but then I've somewhat biased about my cats.

Well- what we would do without our cats?

He has a white patch on his chest and another low on his belly, plus random single white hairs in places. I still regard him as black though.

Cats are part of my life! I can't imagine living without them.

What a beauty! Happy birthday, Sebastian! He looks a lot like Zafira - the white spots are in the same places. Would you say that black cats are more of the delicate/smallish type? I have the feeling that Zafira is rather small (she was probably born in the beginning of July 2012). Are they fully grown when they're a year old? Zafira is also very loving and likes to be around us.

My sister had a little black female and she was definitely small and delicate. Sebastian I'd say was a medium-sized male and not at all delicate. I think it depends on the cat. Ashley is tiny; perhaps she and Zafira are small because they were strays as kittens. I love her name; very exotic and rather like "sapphire".

They say cats are fully grown at one year but I disagree; all mine (but Ashley, probably) have grown after that but more slowly. I'd put full growth at two years.

Very sweet. :)
