Sebastian is 3

Sebastian turned 3 last week (going by a guessed birth date) so here are some pics of him taken over the last year. Like most black cats I've known, he's very sweet-natured and loving.

It's not that easy getting photos of a black cat and some of these were taken at night and consequently a bit grainy.

In winter I keep a bag of scarves and fingerless mitts downstairs. One day I came in and flung my scarf in the bag and thought I saw it move. I assumed it was a trick of the light till a black head emerged.


The most recent one: Sebastian on the cat tree. All three like to lie on the platform (singly, not all together) when I'm reading in the armchair beside it. :-)

He is, and he's the cuddliest of the three. He spent this evening curled up against me and will probably sleep between us tonight (along with Jasmin the duvet-diver).

The strategic placement for cuddling is familiar, Tosca does that too. (And if I should walk past her without falling for it there's usually an indignant poke of a paw to compel me... :-)

Black cats do seem to have very sweet dispositions. It's odd how personalities tend to go with fur colour, like torties being naughty (though I bet not as mischievous as Jasmin).

How cute! A previous cat, Petra, used to lie in wait above head-level and launch herself at my shoulders. She was a cuddly darling, but sometimes it frightened the hell out of me when I wasn't expecting it.

Natasha is what you'd call a tortie I think and BOY is she something. Constantly ambushes me, paw grabs around my ankles from behind when I'm walking (never uses claws), fake bites, etc. This is what I get for naming her after Natasha Romanov. :^)

Tortoiseshell: a mix of black, brown, and ginger (or any two) with no white. When I was adopting Sebastian they had the cutest little tortoiseshell girl who was booked by a guy who liked the "tortie attitude". The Lonely Miaow sometimes warn that a kitten is a typical "naughty tortie" which can be positive or negative depending on people's likes.

So it might also go with the fur! :-)

We used to say that Claudia's imperial name went to her head; maybe Natasha feels the same way. Is the character related to the old Russian imperial family?

Well, Tasha has white- so I guess Tortie isn't exactly her. Tortoiseshell and white? Me, I'd call her a Tuxedo Ticked Brownish Gray and Red Tabby Calico. :^)

I doubt Comix canon Natasha was related to the imperial family. From what I gather she was orphaned young, and taken in for specialized spy training which involved numerous aliases & brainwashing so she had false memories. No idea what her original name was-- probably Natalia something?

Oh, he is gorgeous. You've managed to catch him in many different non-blob-shaped poses! I like the deck picture a lot.

We are currently trying to plan our colours and things for a new house (aah, not moving again!) and we keep getting advice about decorating in neutrals, plus inheriting furniture in shades of grey or brown, and it's just depressing me that colours seem to be outlawed. Your bright blue chair and rainbow-striped cushions are absolutely beautiful and I am heartened to be reminded that colours do exist. How to make them happen in my new house, though...

The deck picture turned out really well! He almost looks like this icon from a drawing I did of him a couple of years ago.

I confess to having off-white walls and blinds, but that's so I can have colourful furniture and pictures on the walls without them being overpowering. How about getting some really bright cushions for your neutral furniture; it's amazing how flashes of colour perk a room up. Bright vases, artwork, and ornaments are other ideas. [looks around this room] Damn, time to water the plants.

Off-white is a perfectly fine neutral. I was told I could get advice at the paint shop and pointed out the sorts of colours I like and the assistant practically whisked everything remotely colourful out of sight so she could show me an assortment of dishwater greys and beiges, ranging from boring to ugly to suicide-inducing. That must be the fashion at the moment, but it's not what I like. I am leaning towards creamy white as a blank background for colourful decoration, unless I find a really lovely shade of pale purply-blue like the bedroom my parents painted for me when I was ten.

What I call putty colours. There are whole suburbs here with houses in those dull colours. Why? WHY?

Ig you can find your colour in the Pantone range and note its code, you can probably get a paint made up. :-)

He is! And so sweet and cuddly and affectionate. I was just watching TV with him curled up on my legs, and he sleeps between us at night.

Awwww I grew up with two black cats so I have a reel soft spot for them :) He's just adorable!
