Day 16 - Mexican ceramic cat

This is one of a pair of matched hand-painted ceramic cats. It has similar colouring to the lizard so I wonder if that's a traditional style. The cats come from Tonala but the lizard just has "Mexico" underneath.

Mexican ceramic cat

I gave her a hot background to remind me of Mexican sun in this very cold winter. :-) On her back she has two leaves, two flowers, and a bird, all green. :-)

My NaArMaMo 2011 Gallery is here; go up a level for the others.

Cute! You've really captured the gloss of her glaze.

We need warm things in weather like this :)

We didn't think it safe to try to drive anywhere on Sunday or Monday (day off work, yay!), but everything was back to normal on Tuesday. The house is only about ten years old, so pretty well insulated, and we have a big Yunca, so there were no problems staying warm :)

Beautiful, I'd really like to own the ceramics :)

Looking at your gallery the Suffolk poppy field is lovely and is exactly like fields close to where I live, but then the Suffolk border is less than 10 miles away so that might explain it :)

Ely cathedral is awesome and dates from 1083.It's huge and towers over this tiny town. You have to go inside to really appreciate it's beauty and uniqueness :)

Awww, how nice. I doubt your Czech friend is alone there. The icon is the inside of the octagon tower (the lantern).

That cat could give coaching in how to look appealing.

How darling! I love your collection.

Thank you! I sometimes think I have too many things, but what would I get rid of?

I know I have too many things, but, like you said, what do I get rid of?

There was a newspaper headline today about "Coal Plants Playing Chicken with Regulation". They actually meant factories that are powered by coal getting as close as they dare to breaking the rules, but I immediately visualized it as a picture in your style...

A black rose crossing the road perhaps?

I was sort of thinking vines tipped with chunks of coal lined up in a football scrimmage against a team of chickens...

Another cat with personality! I like the way the flora and fauna actually simulate cat markings.

I couldn't resist this little pair.

Beautiful cat! And I like how nicely you painted that light reflecting on the glazing. She is very sweet!
I think you really managed to evoke warmth and sun!

I was wondering what background to give her and hit on a sunny one. :-)

Gorgeous!YOu really, really are amazing how you capture the depth and textures of things, esp ceramics and glass.

Thank you! I sit the things beside me and look at how the desk lamp reflects off them.

Such a little cutie! Good job on the highlights and textures again.

Thank you! It's amazing what highlights do, even more than shadows.

[identity profile] luinielle.livejournal.com 2011-08-17 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
She's beautiful. I love how you've done the shiny reflection on her.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-08-17 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

Is that one of your sweet cats?

[identity profile] luinielle.livejournal.com 2011-08-17 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
No, he's not one of ours. He was one of about fourteen cats who lived on the grounds of a Bed and Breakfast inn. He was peering in through the window at a bird plushie. :o)
