Uniqueness, meniqueness...

OK, I'll play! Knowing you lot's eclectic taste, I'll do three of each as some others have done. If you have something I have, tell me and I'll try again.

Books you own that no one on your friends list owns:

'Farmer Giles of Ham' by J R R Tolkien (Those who have 'Smith of Wootton Major' will probably shoot this down)
'Ripping Yarns' by Michael Palin and Terry Jones
'The Cartoon History of the Universe' by Larry Gonick
'Tristram Shandy' by Laurence Sterne
'Rommel' by Ward Rutherford
'The Dog It Was That Died' by Alan Coren
'Passionella and other stories' by Jules Feiffer

CDs you own that no one on your friends list owns:

'Lush Mechanique' - Jamie Sieber
'My Yiddish Swing' - the Jews Brothers Band
'The Cosmopolitan' - Marlene Dietrich

DVDs / VHS tapes you own that no one on your friends list owns:

I, Claudius
Edge of Darkness (BBC series)
The Brave Little Toaster
Koyaanisqatsi
October Skies
The General (Buster Keaton)
Savage Honeymoon

Places you've been that no one on your friends list has been to:

Sicily
Bletchley Park (WW2 cryptology geekness)
Scapa Flow (the Orkney Islands)
Spetse (Greek island)
Through the Panama Canal
Sveti Stefan, Serbia

I so have I, Claudius on DVD. And I've been to Sicily.*g*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2004-10-15 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I have the books too; they're among my favourites. And I loved Sicily, I'd like to go back one day.

[identity profile] selenak.livejournal.com 2004-10-16 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Vivat Robert Graves, I say. But... do you have the audio version read by Derek Jacobi as well? *g*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2004-10-16 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
No, you've got me there! I must look for that; it would be wonderful.

I've got Farmer Giles of Ham. I feel as if I've got Ripping Yarns, but I think that was my ex-flatmate's.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2004-10-15 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll scratch it just in case.

[identity profile] steverogerson.livejournal.com 2004-10-15 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I remember years ago buying Ripping Yarns as a Christmas present for somebody - does that count?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2004-10-15 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope, you have to own it.

[identity profile] redstarrobot.livejournal.com 2004-10-15 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I have the Cartoon History of the Universe!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2004-10-15 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool! I've got a couple more of his too. [fossicks about to find another interesting example of her weird taste...]

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2004-10-16 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
We have Edge of Darkness.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2004-10-16 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Yay for Joe Don Baker! [goes to peruse collection again]

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2004-10-16 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
He is *fabulous*!

[identity profile] pinkdormouse.livejournal.com 2004-10-16 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Wasn't I the one that advised you to go to Bletchley Park? I was sure you knew that I'd been, anyway.

Gina

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2004-10-16 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
No, it wasn't you, as Greg and I have wanted to go there for years. However I'm not surprised you've been there. We have a lot in common, with planes, tanks and geeky tech. :-D

[identity profile] hafren.livejournal.com 2004-10-16 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Got Tristram Shandy - couldn't live without it. And been to Scapa...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2004-10-16 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Aaaaugh! I knew this would be hard...

[identity profile] spacefall.livejournal.com 2004-10-16 07:54 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, so you're the other owner of TS :D

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2004-10-16 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
I think someone on my friends list has Koyaanisqatsi...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2004-10-16 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
I think it has to be someone on mine. Not doing very well here, am I? Mind you, I played fair and didn't cite any NZ stuff.

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2004-10-16 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
That's a very impressive list of places that you've been to.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2004-10-16 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I did a lot of travelling, mostly in Europe. Just thought--I haven't even mentioned SE Asia, perhaps because it was only two months, whereas I lived in Israel and Europe for four years in all. Then there's holidays in local places like Fiji and Australia but my Australian friends would have those covered.

There's so much I haven't seen. I hope I get the chance to travel like that again.

I had no qalms in not playing fair, as my friendslist is so international it was probably the only way I was going to get something unique. Though I did play fair by giving a mixture...

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2004-10-18 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
I've got it, although it's not a commercial copy; it's one a friend copied for me. Does that count?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2004-10-18 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Yep!

[personal profile] kerravonsen 2004-10-16 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I have the soundtrack, but that probably doesn't count, especially as I haven't even seen the original.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2004-10-16 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
We have the soundtrack as well as the film. I like it the best of the three.

[identity profile] spacefall.livejournal.com 2004-10-16 07:54 am (UTC)(link)
You like Tristram Shandy? Hurrah! *clutches a copy*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2004-10-16 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
It's wonderful! [pats own copy, sitting on desk beside me because had to get it out after thinking of it, and starts to read random pages for pleasure...]

[identity profile] reapermum.livejournal.com 2004-10-16 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
We have the Brave Little Toaster and all the stuff Tolkien published in his lifetime.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2004-10-16 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I love 'Brave Little Toaster'. I've never been one of nature's consumers myself; I never see the point of replacing anything that works (all right, except for PCs). When I get a new kitchen, it will be cupboards only.

Farmer Giles got shot down a while ago. I hadn't realised Tolkien wrote so much though--someone had 'Letters from Father Christmas' which I'd never heard of.
