What's My Personality Type?
Quel surprise. ;-)
| You Are An INTP |
![]() You are analytical and logical - and on a quest to learn everything you can. Smart and complex, you always love a new intellectual challenge. Your biggest pet peeve is people who slow you down with trivial chit chat. A quiet maverick, you tend to ignore rules and authority whenever you feel like it. In love, you are an easy person to fall for. But you're not an easy person to stay in love with. Although you are quite flexible, you often come off as aloof or argumentative. At work, you are both a logical and creative thinker. You are great at solving problems. You would make an excellent mathematician, programmer, or professor. How you see yourself: Creative, fair, and tough-minded When other people don't get you, they see you as: arrogant, cold, and robotic |

Indeed.

Hm. And what dark Byronic anti-hero does this remind you of? ::cough::

I don't think I've ever been seen as robotic though; just geeky and weird. I can however do robotic things with my arms. :-P

I can be argumentative in RL as they say, but I've learned to back away and modify my language to be softer and more indirect on LJ and mailing lists and people often think I'm too blunt when they can't see my expression.

Like me being more then usually defeated and depressed lately. However I deal with it by reading and immersing myself in other worlds; distraction works very well.

Sometimes, it takes me a while to even realise that I'm feeling someting!
I understand using distraction. I tend to do that too. Although sometimes it's a bit like running away ... but I honestly don't know how else to deal with stuff. I wonder sometimes if I ever deal with stuff.
Perhaps INTPs are the world's greatest experts at "denial"? I mean given enough time, it will just go away. I hope.

Your beautiful pictures are the best mirror of your personality!

What do you think Vila would be?

I'm ENTP. So close and yet so far...

I know there's a lot more to MBTI and how the less dominant bits work, but I do panic and get emotional when things go badly wrong. OTOH Feeling types may get very calm and matter-of-fact in bad situations. I think it depends on whether one is I or E, or what the T or F is paired with, but I haven't really gone into it that deeply.

There probably is more to it. I found this article (http://www.intp.org/intprofile.html) about the less dominant bits, but that is as detailed as I have ever read. I'm sure expert psychologists would know more.
What worries me is the similarity to actual depression. I have been a sufferer on and off for years. Steve once said that he wondered whether all INTPs were candidates for it, due to their unique personalities.
Sorry: forgot my HTML.

Examples of fictional characters who INTPs have a natural affinity for are Avon (Blake's Seven), Data (Star Trek: TNG) and Seven of Nine (Voyager).
They're spot-on with Data and Seven of Nine, but I never liked Avon much. It was always Vila, as a child and now. Odd really, as I usually go for the geeks, androids, or aliens. I'm not sure why Vila got to me, and so deeply I had to write for him.
INTPs are usually oblivious to external details unless something forces them to take notice.
I'm always acutely aware of faces and expressions, and words used, but I rarely notice anything like clothes. I couldn't tell you what the By lot wore till I started to draw them. I'm aware that others notice this sort of thing though and try to wear different clothes each weekday. :-P
There are some things that don't apply to me--but do to Greg, like needing music. But that's one of the better articles I've read.
I wondered if I was depressed and took a test, but it seems I'm not, because I can get out of that frame of mind by reading or watching TV and taking my mind off it all. I have a suspicion that all introverts are regarded as Not Quite Right by the vast extrovert majority (75%).

I really related to the section about being oblivious to detail. I do tend to pick up "atmospherics" rather than the detail of a place when I'm travelling. I also relly related to the messiness described ... I do get domestic blindness after a while.
I am really aware of words rather than expressions and faces. I have noticed that the kids at school take notice of what I'm wearing, and jewellery and things, that I don't give a second thought to.
I'm not a great music lover, but the part about choosing music to reflect my mood rather than to change my mood resonated. I'll often find words from songs that are a perfect description of how I'm feeling, or what I'm thinking float into my consciousness without warning ... often something that I haven't heard for years.
I thought the vast majority of people were introverts ... must check that up.
Interesting, isn't it?

Really? That might explain it. Otherwise I'm not sure how Vila fits in with Spock, Data, Seven of Nine, Garak, Stark, Londo, and G'Kar, all androids or aliens. Maybe with the adorable Vir Cotto; though he's an alien too, he has so much in common with Vila (including two letters), and I think he was be based on him--JMS was a B7 fan after all, which is why he named Anna that.
I am really aware of words rather than expressions and faces.
Maybe you're more verbal than me. I'm very visual and will remember a face over a name any day. I do however have a good ear for dialogue and whether it's right. I do make an effort to dress nicely with matching or contrasting jewellery etc (even if I don't notice others' clothes unless they're stunning) but I think that's my artistic side. How things look matter a lot to me. I can be domestically blind too, but my sense of aesthetics kicks in when things get too messy. Or is if we;'re expecting a visitor.
I love music, but mainly orchestral, or without lyrics. I can't even think straight if someone's talking or I can hear a song; others' words interfere with mine. However I love intelligent lyrics that aren't repetitive and "lurve ya behbeh" which is why I enjoy Al Stewart so much.
Nope, the majority are extrovert which is why we're so misunderstood by colleagues and management. Sigh.
It is interesting! Some people really hate the whole idea of MBTI though; it must be our analytical natures,

"Over 60% of gifted people are introverted compared with 30% of the general
population. Over 75% of highly gifted people are introverted. (The percentage of
introverts seems to increase with IQ (Silverman).) "

"there is a known statistical correlation between introversion, giftedness, PhDs and Phi Beta Kappas. It would seem that the higher you go in education and IQ intelligence, the ratio of introverts to extroverts reverses itself with a majority of Rhodes Scholars being introverts, for example."
