Fic: Lynx Part 3 - Revelations

I used the [livejournal.com profile] picowrimo challenge last month to write the third part of my Lynx story, also known as The Big PGP. My thanks as ever go to my excellent beta-reader, [livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2. The story is on my site's fiction page, with the previous two parts in the series, and I should also load it onto the Hip Deep in Heroes archive. I'll probably get round to that tomorrow.

Lynx Part 1 - Rescues
Lynx Part 2 - Recovery
Lynx Part 3 - Revelations

There are two more parts to come. Sorry I'm so slow with this; I'm just not as prolific as some of you.

Hooray! I've been looking forward to this ever since Pico. And it's very gratifying to find that it isn't at all what I expected! There's much less of Avon and hardly any of Carnell, and really, it's a love story (although a love story that happens more in the spaces in between events than in the events themselves). I predict that Soolin's sister will be recued and her memories recovered, but at the moment I'm relishing the pain of Soolin's having found her, only for her to seem more lost than ever.

I do like your Soolin. She gets some wonderful lines ("I seem to be attached to another man"). And I like the way she does nothing to let Vila know her she feels - it seems to me very in character that her utter self-reliance, her refusal to show any weakness, actually makes her life harder because it prevents her from admitting how she feels.

My favourite bit, though, was the exchange about the troopers' underwear :-) That was marvellously unexpected (although come to think of it, underwear is a sort of Vila leitmotif. I remember him speculating on what everyone wore on the Liberator, not to mention his family motto!).

The next part deals with Soolin's sister--and another mission. I pretty much had the skeleton of these stories, along with complete scenes, in my head since around 2003, as a new fan. Yes, it's been years in the making. :-P

At the end of part 2, they were both unwilling to let on how they felt in case they were rejected or hurt, or damaged their friendship. Something like this had to happen to shock admissions out of them both. I also think Soolin needs someone warm who also understands the bad stuff she's been through, and of course Vila needs someone more sensible and less impulsive than himself.

The trooper's underwear was there from the beginning, years ago. I don't know; these story sometimes just play out like internal films which I have to write down. But yes, there was a running underwear motif in Vila's E-mails, started by his mother's concern that it was clean in case he was captured.

That was good. :~)

But you like happy endings as much as me, so I expected it to be.

Thanks! Now I'll have to get round to the last two parts. :-)

I liked that lots.

Thank you! That pleases me greatly. :-)

Good story. I hope there is more to follow.
I've thought of writing fanfic where Soolin turns out to be Avon's long lost neice or sister. They were similar in temperment, except Soolin was far more loyal. This fic reminded me of it, since Avon was 15 when his brother left for a agricultural colony in this set of stories.
I'm glad Vila survived in these fics. A very forgiving person too, giving Avon a second chance. Most people wouldn't. If Avon had pulled that stunt in the shuttle with any of the others, I think they would have killed him.
The last story, "Blake" with Vila saying he always assumed people were out to get him wherever he went, and Soolin saying, "The difference is on GP, you would be right." Well, her saying that did seem silly, since everyone was out to get them wherever they went. GP was the last in a long line of unsafe places. Vila was usually right when he suspected a trap or danger, but no one seemed to take him seriously.

Vila is a very gregarious person. He needs people and will prefer danger with others to being alone, so he'd be more willing than most to forgive and retain a friend.

Vila was indeed usually right, which is one reason I have him having a slight psychic ability, just enough to give him hunches.
