Aussie survey meme

I should be drawing my B7 card or fixing my Lynx story to post on my site, but I'm a bit distracted with Jasmin having had her operation today (I'm picking her up shortly) and the new cat (see next post). I have however knitted the outsides (the hardest part) of two teleport bracelets. :-)

Greg comes back tonight, but with a massive cold, so I'not sure when he's going back to work, and can therefore print said unfinished B7 card. So it will be late again this year.

In the meantime, have a Australian survey meme. Hey, it makes a change from all those US high school ones, and a surprising amount applies to here as well.

Dag means 'Pooey wooly bits hanging off the rear end of a sheep' here. Surely the same in NZ?

[identity profile] crycraven.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
We call them dangleberries hahahahaaa

[identity profile] thetisonline.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
I think my Mum used to say that! *laughs*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, but when it's applied to a person, it means they're a bit of a joker, not the nerd it implies in Australia.

[identity profile] thetisonline.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
Mmmm ... yes, I've heard it used in an affectionate way, which usually means a bit of a joker, or 'character'.

But it's not really nerd ... it's more ... daggy. *struggles to find right term* More like they wear old clothes, or poorly matched clothes, and maybe look a bit unkempt.

Bother, I'll have to wait until morning to hear the exciting news about the new cat...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry. Got distracted by Jasmin and The Cat With No Name, whom I'm still keeping apart, though TCWNN wants desperately to meet Jasmin.

Vic has seen her, looked, then gone to sleep on the couch. Claudia growled, then sat on my lap while I knitted. Jasmin did get a glimpse of her last night and fluffed up, but she doesn't need to have any extra stress today. They will meet tomorrow and possibly compare operation scars (TCWNN was done on the 2nd).

[identity profile] thetisonline.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
I added a few to mine ...

106. Had a frog in your toilet.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
I have done none of these! I hired a ute once though to move furniture.

[identity profile] thetisonline.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 07:28 am (UTC)(link)
Our National anthem has "girt by sea" in it ... which just means 'surrounded', I think it is the verb or 'girth'. No-one but an Australian would know this!

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 09:51 am (UTC)(link)
{grin} I would add 'know what ute means', having had to explain it quite a few times...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 10:05 am (UTC)(link)
The term's just as common here. :-)

[identity profile] wolfma.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm...I always thought knitting the inside was easier. Maybe that's why mine come out looking warped while yours look smooth.

That reminds me: I still need to post my Cygnus Alpha pattern.

I've had an opossum on my dresser, does that count?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
Damn. I meant the outside! [goes to edit]

Eep! I've just had them on the roof and the barbie (which wasn't of course going). I think our possums are different from your opossums though.

[identity profile] wolfma.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 11:33 am (UTC)(link)
I should think so. :)

Here the Possum is the Virginia Opossum; all others are opossums.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Australian ones (which we have) are possums (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Possum). :-)

[identity profile] wolfma.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Cute little fellow!

Here's the type (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opossum) we have around here.

(I meant "all others are possums". Oops!)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
The first picture looks quite different, but the last one looks like ours. THey are quite cute; a colleague had one as a pet, and there used to be an old lady who wheeled her pet possum round in a pram, and even introduced it to royalty (forget which one). :-D

Ours are officially possums. I thought all of yours were opossums and just possums or short.

BTW "possum" is a term of affection; an Aussie friend calls me that. :-)

[identity profile] wolfma.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a term of affection here, too, well opossum is!

Here's a picture of one of ours I took last spring:

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Cute! He doesn't look so different to ours. They must have common ancestors.

Once I was swimming in a thermal pool, and the trees around were full of possums watching us. I've never seen so many. They're an unwanted pest here though as they're introduced and don't have any predators, so cause lots of damage to local life and native trees.

[identity profile] crycraven.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
Hope Jasmine is ok - aren't they funny when they are all groggy and fall over? I am mean, I know, but it makes me laugh.

Cant wait to hear about nu kitteh x

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
She's not groggy at all; the new anaesthetic wear off really fast! She was playing with her new mice I bought at the vet's as soon as she got out of her carry-bed.

New kitten is meowing non-stop ATM; she wants to meet Jasmin but she can't till tomorrow. :-P

[identity profile] kalinda001.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
At least Jasmin came out of it fine and she won't have those problems any more (or you). Poor kittie.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
They said she was definitely in season! She's upstairs playing as I type. I should go and check on her.
