Knitted teleport bracelet!

Another hot day today! I had to go into town to meet my sister for lunch at a place she swore was wonderful, but where we ate very substandard pasta (she apologised and said it was really good for dinner which didn't really help). She was buying material for an outfit for a family wedding next month which I'm really pissed off about because it's on at the same time as the Wings Over Wairarapa air show where they'll have a Spitfire. A Spitfire! Newmarket was hot, crowded, and noisy and it's taken me over an hour to cool down.

I have however finally sewn my knitted teleport bracelet together, done using [livejournal.com profile] wolfma's pattern here.

It fits well, but doesn't appear to work. :-(

The pink crystal is slightly raised due to increasing and decreasing two stitches.

When I do another one (I have lots of yarn left over), I shall use a better method of knitting yarn in behind than I did for this one, and plain intarsia for the pink to make it stand up more.

On my hand, looking eerily gothic in the shade. :-P

*grin*
She's Laura, who's very clever, and a massive B7 fan - so Lorac hahahaaa

She lent me the B7 dvds last year, which resulted in me googling Avon, which resulted in me reading some fan fiction - I mean, I'd never heard of it, let alone read any.

*pleased sigh*

It's all been downhill from there...

I found fanfic when I finished the series and was bereft and wanted more. I spent hours devouring PGPs. :-) I hadn't realised it existed either, and had written Vila's E-mails with the expectation of maybe 6 people being interested enough to read.

*glee*

Were you writing before that?

I wrote a collection of illustrated short stories called "The Adventures of Amelia" when I was about 6 (Amelia was irredeemably naughty and there were no educational morals, haha) and two novels when I was about 12 (one set in WW2 in occupied France, and the other set in a boarding school like the one I was at). Chapters used to be passed around class as I finished them. I had a go at SF and satire at 16 or so, but since then it was all internal story writing. I should have a proper go again. I have several unwritten novels, though one was heavily influenced by Gormenghast and Star Wars. :-P

But that is soooo cool, and when you win the Booker prize will make a great article!

*sigh* But fanfic is so easy, isn't it? No characterisation required, a wealth of plot to fall back on, a ready-made audience and an immediate feedback system.

Writing a book takes a long time, one hears...

Yeah, and you can't live from it unless you hit a seam of gold. Ah well. I could start small with kids' books and maybe the SF ABC.

Hey, are you on Ravelry? If you are, I'm Vilakins (of course); friend me!

Ah, your sf alphabet is all kinds of win - I'll order a copy for my nephews!

I will have to draw things which aren't copyright like the three-eyed alien! :-P

Friended you back; yay!

I must make a knitting icon...
