Knitted teleport bracelet!

Another hot day today! I had to go into town to meet my sister for lunch at a place she swore was wonderful, but where we ate very substandard pasta (she apologised and said it was really good for dinner which didn't really help). She was buying material for an outfit for a family wedding next month which I'm really pissed off about because it's on at the same time as the Wings Over Wairarapa air show where they'll have a Spitfire. A Spitfire! Newmarket was hot, crowded, and noisy and it's taken me over an hour to cool down.

I have however finally sewn my knitted teleport bracelet together, done using [livejournal.com profile] wolfma's pattern here.

It fits well, but doesn't appear to work. :-(

The pink crystal is slightly raised due to increasing and decreasing two stitches.

When I do another one (I have lots of yarn left over), I shall use a better method of knitting yarn in behind than I did for this one, and plain intarsia for the pink to make it stand up more.

On my hand, looking eerily gothic in the shade. :-P

Oh, that's wonderful! You made it look better than I ever could.

Thanks for the corrections to the pattern. :)

That is so nifty!

Oooh, cool! Stylin'!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
No! Your picture was lovely, and you used better (and shinier) yarn! I was pleased to find such a vibrant pink though.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't it! Do you knit? The pattern's great!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
And it doubles as a wrist-cuff! :-D

[identity profile] vandonovan.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
It doesn't work? :( Alas! I love it though, it's so nifty and creative. :D

I wish I had yarn like your brownish-black. The only colors I could find were either black or brown that was way off.

I'll get around to putting my Cygnus Alpha pattern up sometime.

Right now I'm thinking about how to turn ORAC into a handbag (sounds like something Vila would threaten--he'd make a nice bag for Jenna). I think it just might be possible, using clear and glow-in-the-dark jelly yarn.

My sister has promised to teach me over Christmas. I didn't learn as a child because I thought it was too girly. I did macrame instead.

I WANT ONE NAOW

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
It might get me onto a knitted Liberator. ;-) Bit leaky in vacuum though.

Thanks! The kudos goes to [livejournal.com profile] wolfma for the pattern though.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
But you can knit now!

I'm going to make some more. I could send you one. :-)

And bwahaha, when I post a pic of me in my DW scarf, I'll have a Jayne hat and this! Oh, the nerdishness!

[identity profile] crycraven.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
*gasp*

OH MAKE ME ONE PLEEEEEEEASE! I am seriously considering Redemption convention 09, *scared squee* and would wear it with pride. I'll pay postage! *dances*

I can't make it myself. It's haaaaaaaaaard...

[identity profile] crycraven.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
Also, nerds = win. xxxxxxxxxxx

[identity profile] vandonovan.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
Kudos to you both

Knited Liberator might be leaky in vacuum, but much cuddlier, I imagine. :)

I learned when I was about 12 so I could knit myself scarves and jerseys, but stopped when I was about 18 for the same reason as you. It all came back though! And knitting is suddenly cool (who knew?) and being done by guys. :-)

Crochet is easy. I taught myself that at one stage, at about 15 I think. You might find that easier; I did.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
You can get such yarn? Not here, you can't! [cries] That sounds just wonderful.

Greg suggested I knit Vila's toolbox, but honestly, you can buy them here as red and white chilly-bins / eskies (not sure what you call them there).

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
OK! You probably won't get it till next year though, what with slow December post--and I have to make it. Shouldn't take too long though now I know how. :-) Postage shouldn't be too much either; it's pretty light. The yarn's acrylic BTW; it had the right colours.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
I will however not be making one. The prongs would droop for a start. ;-)

And now I have 50 more user icons, I will have to make a knitting one.

Yay! Redemption is in February, but we miss it, it'll still be cold here and I can wear it as a snazzy wristband! *hugs you, a bit TOO hard*

Ooof!

xx

[identity profile] vandonovan.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
Easy enough to reinforce though, with a coat hanger wire or bit of bamboo or something! XD

I have 50 more too! I've already uploaded several new ones and I still have a ton of slots!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, you'll have it by then!

I wish I could go to Redemption. Star One 2004 will be my only B7 con. [mourns]

[identity profile] crycraven.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
It seems good for the beginner - and for fans such as Lorac and myself, who shy away from meeting the actors. I know you love MK, but I'd regret meeting him or NOOOOOOOOO! Paul NOOOOOOO! Darrow.

I can't fancy him in real life/time scale. He's older than my dad.
*hides eyes*

If it's good and not scary then I may ask to run a Kaldor City panel in 2010. I love them so much more now I have seen Robots of Death and Image of Fendahl, and even though I've listened to them a billion times I am STILL trying to figure out what the hell is going on.

I shall wear your bracelet with pride. Lorac is going to espode with the green! xx

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
MK is utterly adorable, but PD may tarnish your image of Avon. :-P

Is Lorac Carol backwards, or L'Orac? :-) Yay for more B7 fans!

[identity profile] crycraven.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
*grin*
She's Laura, who's very clever, and a massive B7 fan - so Lorac hahahaaa

She lent me the B7 dvds last year, which resulted in me googling Avon, which resulted in me reading some fan fiction - I mean, I'd never heard of it, let alone read any.

*pleased sigh*

It's all been downhill from there...
