Jasmin pic

I wanted to get a picture of Jasmin playing with her cyclotron, but as soon as I got the camera out, she stopped. The cyclotron BTW is a small blue plastic toroid with holes that she can get her paws through to bat a yellow ball around in a circuit. There's only one hadron, so no collisions there. ;-) Vic likes this toy as well.

Anyway, I did manage to get a nice pic of her in a quiet moment. And look, I now have an icon for her.

She doesn't still look grumpy to you, does she? See, it's her markings: little stripes above her eyes and ridges between her ears, and funny little slipped spectacles which on her brother look like dissipated bags under the eyes. We've had her a week now, and I'm sure her points have got darker. I think she's gorgeous, and she's got a lovely personality: playful, lively, and very cuddly and affectionate.

Ha, she *does* look grumpy because of the frowny markings, but it's not like she can help it. (At least some dog breeds have it worse, and some *people* look permanently grumpy!) But I love that look she's giving the camera, very curious and interested and intelligent. Give her a scritch from me!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
[Jamins purrs and wriggles onto her back as I do so]

I think the markings will be less obvious as her face gets darker. It'll end up the colour of chocolate, and I didn't notice the markings on the adult chocolate cats at Patsy's. Here's an example (http://rechercheburmesecats.com/yahoo_site_admin/assets/images/rollo_rianon_003.19803311_std.JPG); his face is more like Tessa's.

[identity profile] babel.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, she's really cute. I think the grumpy markings make her look cuter. XD

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
She's adorable: so soft and cuddly and sweet. :-D I can recognise lots of different expressions already; this one's interested. Claudia OTOH only had one expression as a kitten: constant surprise at the world.

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
To me, she looks a little serious and a little quizzical, which will (from her POV) come in useful if she develops a mischievous streak, and needs a "who me???" look :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
She was wondering what I was doing with that thing, but not at all worried. As for a mischievous streak, she has one already. She knows she's not meant to go behind the TV and get down the gap behind the entertainment unit, but she does. Tessa was just the same.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
My Bonnie always looks grumpy to me and I'm not really sure why I get the same effect from Jasmine... I just compared a photo of Bonnie to Jasmine, and I think the effect is caused by the shape of the eye, particularly the upper eyelid, not the markings.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
That could be so; visitors often thought Tessa was annoyed when she wasn't. She had very slanted golden eyes too, and when they're half-shut, she did look annoyed to others. To me though, Jasmin just looks interested, and I've seen her puzzled, sleepy, and ecstatic among other expressions. Claudia OTOH only had surprise in her repertoire for her first few weeks. :-)

She's truly beautiful. She doesn't look grumpy--not that I thought she ever did. Her points are darker and I love the 'spectacles'.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I think she's gorgeous. I'm sure as her points darken, the markings will be less obvious. BTW she's a dear little scrap, even though she looks more adult than non-Oriental kittens do. :-) And awww, she has tiny ear-tufts, like Tessa did.

She's absolutely beautiful. And she looks about the same age as our kittens (who would adore a cyclotron! Alas, they have to make do with pulling leaves off the house plants and doing Hamlet/Polonius impressions behind the curtains).

Mephisto doesn't look grumpy, but he's so utterly black that he often looks like the incarnation of pure evil. Then I have to give him a big cuddle and tell I know he's really just a little furry cat baby and that demons need someone to love them, too.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
Of course you'd have dramatic kittens! :-D Jasmin likes the plants too, though I worry that some might be poisonous for her, and she also loves an old knitting needle, two toy mice, ping-pong balls, and the Cat of Many Tails. This is a long flexible rod with about 12 colourful suede strips attached. It sounds vicious, but all our cats have loved chasing and chewing it, and it's survived years of that.

I know what you mean: Tessa was very dark with gold eyes, and often people who didn't know what a gentle little darling she was assumed she was mean and avoided her, giving their attention to Claudia. I love black cats! They're so glossy and beautiful. Tabbies have lovely markings too; give them both a cuddle for me. :-)

How old are they know? Jasmin is three months, so possibly older. I think yours were very young when you gallantly rescued them.

No, not grumpy, the eyes are full of laughter, it is just the "make-up".She is a kissable little cat, "kočička", mmmm, and she will be a beautiful young lady soon! Nice pic!
BTW, I will try and get a picture of my daughter´s cat Nácíček - he, thanks hos markings, looks extremely tragical, really, you would cry. But what a king of mischief he is! Yes, I will try our cats today, you inspired me!:-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 09:20 am (UTC)(link)
Kočička is cat? I sometimes call Claudia 'Klavdia Koshka' in Russian. :-)

It's funny how markings can give them expressions. My late Sigi, a tabby, always looked as if she was going "Oooooh!" in surprise.

She doesn't look grumpy to me, just puzzled, trying to work things out, like why is she pointing that thing at me. She looks like a very serious little kitty, but knowing kittens that is the last thing she is. She is enchanting now, when she's full grown she will be a beauty.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
She's a lively, funny little girl, which is why it's been so hard getting pictures of her. I think she's adorable, both in looks and personality. She likes being on my lap or even my feet, sometimes puts her head on my hand, and this morning in bad, she lay right across my neck like a fur collar. She's a darling!

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 08:35 am (UTC)(link)
She looks alert and intelligent, and cuddly to boot.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 09:23 am (UTC)(link)
She is all of those! :-)

[identity profile] bramblyhedge.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 09:23 am (UTC)(link)
Super-duper cute! =^.^= Thanks for sharing Jasmine's progress with us - in my currently catless existence I can live vicariously through you. *lol*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
Awwww. I will try to get some more action shots of her. BTW that picture is larger than life. :-)

It doesn't lie either. :-)

[identity profile] thetisonline.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 11:01 am (UTC)(link)
LOL for the cyclotron! She's lovely.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I got some pics today of her with it. It remains to be seen how well they come out.

[identity profile] pet-lunatic.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think she looks grumpy! More sort of...wry, as though she's reflecting on how daft humans are and considering making a sarcastic remark to that effect. Perfect expression for a kitty ;) She's absolutely beautiful.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Luckily she hasn't read the comments. ;-) She just thinks she's utterly irresistible, and she's right!

She has a lovely expression. And I agree that her colouring seems to be changing.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it is, but it's hard to tell as the lighting in different photos changes her too.

[identity profile] kalinda001.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw she's adorable. I love the ears. She looks like she's saying, "How about this expression?"

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
She has got big ears! I like big expressive ears on a cat. Those Scottish Folds are cute, but they don't really look like cats to me.

[identity profile] san-valentine.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
She is such a lovely colour, and she's going to be so elegant when she's grown up. I'm glad she's such a sweetheart and look forward to seeing more pics as she grows up.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
She's a darling, and there will certainly be photos! :-)

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, I swear, she gets cuter every picture.

Nice to know she won't accidentally destroy the universe with her cyclotron. ;)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm certainly not putting another particle in that thing! She hasn't broken anything yet, but she does have an experimental nature.

Oh, Jasmin, what big ears you have!

I think I'd call that look focussed.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
She does, but I love big ears on a cat. Their ears are so expressive. She's also got little tufts on them like Tessa had, which may grow in thicker. :-)

[identity profile] jaxomsride.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
She is a beauty and she doesn't look grumpy more "What are you doing?" to me.
The adult version looks more like he has a mask on.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Like a Siamese, yes, and I think they even call it a mask. Chocolate Burmese have similar points to Siamese, but they're darker all over, and a rounder cat.

[identity profile] jecono.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Jasmin is an absolutely gorgeous cat! And I think her name suits her well. Aaww, so cute! Please cuddle her for me - and don't forget Claudia and Victor, please! :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I think she has a flower-like little face! It was so cute: we have a blue duvet cover with some scattered flowers near the bottom, as if they're floating on water. They're meant to be frangipani, but we decided they could also be jasmine--and the other day she was pouncing on them, thinking they were real. :-)

Claudia and Vic are getting lots of attention, and they like Jasmin too. Claudia's not impressed when she attacks in play, but this morning when Jasmin was asleep, Claudia put her head on her. :-D

Not grumpy so much as... unimpressed? Like, "Hmmph, we'll see..."

Anyway, she's gorgeous.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-03 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
She totally is! And she's asleep so I can come in here and go on-line. She's locked out of this room after three craps on the carpet. Perhaps she's attracted by the dark brown colour of it. :-P

She looks less ferocious here, but still not an inviting kitten; I'm glad her demeanor hides a fun, sweet girl.

[identity profile] crycraven.livejournal.com 2008-11-03 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh she's adorable! You are soooo lucky. And I think she looks a little annoyed at being disturbed in that perfect imperious ways all felines have. x

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-11-03 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
She wasn't! She just sat there and let me take three photos of her. I liked this one best.
