Lost: There's No Place Like Home (1)
This season really does rock.
Poor Hurley. I don't know what went through his parents' heads that they thought an island-themed party might be fun for a rescued castaway, but I did think the car was a lovely gift from his father. Until he saw the numbers. The Island really wants him back, doesn't it? And he's not unloved either; Sawyer and Jack were both horrified when they realised he was at the Orchid Station. I've only got three icon spaces left but I feel I need a Hurley icon.
I'm intrigued by unstuck-in-time Daniel Faraday's notebook entries about the Orchid. How much did he once know and how much else has he seen and forgotten?
I doubt that any Oceanic settlement would be enough to cover a controlling interest in the large and powerful Paik Corporation; after all Kate and Jack don't seem to be incredibly wealthy; Kate has a nice house with one or two staff, that's all. Sun would need more than a few million. I think Hurley's given his hated lottery money to Sun; certainly by the time she has her baby, he's a close and valued friend.
It seems Keamy has a dead-man switch connected to the explosives on the freighter, and the transmissions from that are the interference they picked up. But why? Surely it would only be of use if someone knew about it so that he would be protected / not killed? I loathe Keamy; unlike Ben he has no interest or depth so he's just plain evil which is boring. I didn't expect him to try to shoot Ben as he's there to 'extract' him, but I wouldn't mind betting his gun would refuse to fire if he had. Speaking of which, the Island must still have a use for Michael.
I like how the Oceanic Six are split among the groups meaning that we can't write any of them off; there's hope for each group.
I do think this season has been very tightly plotted and look forward to the double-ep season finale. I shall be watching it on my own though; Greg the big Lost fan leaves on Tuesday.

I'm not sure about that... I could see it being a really big settlement -- maybe most of Kate's went towards legal fees? God knows what Jack would have done with his; something stupid no doubt. Well, OK, maybe it wouldn't have been quite that big... But I'm not sure Hurley would give the lottery money to Sun if he thought it was cursed. Although maybe he decided it was just cursed for him, in which case, never mind, because then giving it to Sun is totally something he would do.
But why? Surely it would only be of use if someone knew about it so that he would be protected / not killed?
Maybe the idea is that if Keamy is killed, the operation is deemed to be a failure, and the witnesses are automatically eliminated? I think I find that believable enough. Then again, maybe Keamy is just a psychopath and likes the idea of taking everybody with him if he goes. Who knows? But, gaah, I was totally cheering for Ben to kill the bastard before I realized what the implications would be.
but I wouldn't mind betting his gun would refuse to fire if he had.
I don't think I'd bet on that. The Island seems to have withdrawn its favors from Ben these days.

Yeah, Keamy is probably just a psychopath who'd like to take as many people as possible with him. Sigh. Ben is so much more interesting.
He seems more in favour when he teleported or whatever to Tunisia. I think the Island might still have some use for him.
Having to compress their story in S4 wasn't good for Babylon 5 but it really worked for Lost; the eps have been packed full of interesting stuff (well, except for the Jack bits).

Yeah, that sounds like a reasonable ballpark figure. Which, you're right, probably isn't enough by itself, but as

I think Lost is in a much better position than B5 was. They've still got another year after this in which to wrap things up, and that isn't likely to suddenly change on them. And, really, normal US seasons are too long anyway. You almost inevitably end up with a few episodes that are mostly filler.
Heck, I think even the Jack bits this season, on the whole, have been better than previous seasons' Jack stuff.

Apparently Lost has two more seasons. Perhaps we get to see the Six going back; the Island seems to want Hurley anyway.

Well, let's face it, that can't have been too hard. ;-)

Didn't this ep firmly establish that Hurley gave all his money to his parents?
And yay Michelle Forbes! And yay Sayid reuniting with Nadia (even if she is fated to die in a Widmore-orchestrated hit-and-run)!

Not that I recall; Hurley just said he didn't want it back, or anything bought with it. I'd assume his parents had access to some of it after he was assumed dead in the crash.

That was Michelle Forbes! I totally didn't recognize her, for some reason, but every time her face was off camera and I could hear her voice, I was absolutely positive it was her. And then I'd look at her and think, huh, no, maybe it's just someone that sounds like her. (I am infinitely better at recognizing people by their voices than their faces, really.)

Sorry, Greg just watched some of the ep again and yep, his father said like he had. Maybe not all though; he might have given some to Sun, or she arranged a loan. It's a nice idea anyway. :-P

Ah! Okay, I missed all that and couldn't figure out what was going on, so thank you.
What I love about this series is the flash-forwards should give you more clues as to what's going on, when actually they just add to the mystery. It's SO well done.

Me too! When the boat left shore, I thought 'uh-oh', but then realised Sun and Aaron were aboard. Plus we know that's the boat they eventually use to escape on, if that photo of them being 'met by local fisherman' is real.
Other things:
I'm so proud of Sun.
Claire's mum's accent was cringeworthily awful.
Not sure how anyone is convinced that Aaron is 5 weeks old when they're rescued. I'm having a hard time believing he's 2 months old (which I think is the most he can be?) - the baby they're using is more like 6 months.
When is the season finale?

Sun totally rocked. I just hope her father isn't as ruthless with his own daughter as he's shown himself to be with others.
Hmm. I didn't think the boat they landed with was the same. [goes to look] It's a black inflatable (http://bp3.blogger.com/_n3eH1jI8AZ8/SCz5Z9qifyI/AAAAAAAAEsY/PsGPc3hMAQg/s1600-h/oceanic6rescue.jpg) and Sayid and Daniel use a pale grey Zodiac (http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Image:ASJRaft.jpg).
Yeah, I can't believe anyone swallowed Kate's baby story.
The finale is a double ep--413 and 414--on 29 May. :-)

So are you saying there's no more Lost until 29 May? Aargh!
