Donna and Vila, and more cards

First up, I added another crossover conversation (though not technically a conversation) for Donna and Vila. This meme is now closed, but I'll definitely have another go at it if it comes round again.

I got a lovely cat card from [livejournal.com profile] entropy_house and a gorgeous handmade one from [livejournal.com profile] imhilien with cleverly rolled and glued-on paper to make candles complete with flames. :-D

[Edit:] Ooh, and a very cute e-card book from [livejournal.com profile] san_valentine with the most adorable little black and white kitten.

But man, am I stressed out with this sauna-like weather and the stupid Christmas work rush (like why the hell we have to send cards to every client; bah humbug). I've even had to bring some work home.

Oh, the Vila & Donna dialog is marvelous. I LOLed muchly, because it's just so her. (I did have to look up the phrase "fish slice," but now I have learned a new thing. :))

Sympathies on the stress. Hopefully it'll be over soon? The Christmas rush, at least, if not the hot weather.

You don't have fish slices? How to you flip fish in the pan? My mother always said you needed one to get a word in edgeways at our house.

I don't mind heat--I worked in 45C in Israel--it's the stickiness that makes it scarily hard to breathe at the moment. :-(

With a spatula, I assume. Being neither much of a cook nor exceptionally partial to fish, I've never actually done it. :)

TO us, a spatula is a rubbery thing for scraping mixture out of bowls etc; a fish slice is a flat metal thing with slots. For some reason it's still called that even when it's use to flip fried eggs. Go figure.

Interesting. I've always called both things (the rubber one and the metal one) spatulas.

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. I think I've heard the rubbery things called rubber spatulas, but the flat metal thing with slots is definitely just a plain old spatula. "Fish slice" seems like such an odd name for it. I thought at first Vila must be asking for a slice of fish for the cat that had got his tongue or something. :)

I'd assume a spatula was long and thin without holes. Whereas a fish slice is, um, some sort of symmetrical trapezoid with holes. You traditionally got them as a wedding present, for some reason, but I have one despite being a vegetarian spinster.

I have an old wooden-handled, metal fish-slice I use for clearing deposits from the cats' litter trays. It's much sturdier than any of the plastic litter scoops I've seen, and I like the longer handle.

I have one dedicated to that too!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
And why not? You can flip your vege patties or corn fritters with it! I do.

I've never heard of them as wedding presents though. People here tend to toasters and hideous plates and vases. I did get a skillet, but I asked for one.

It's all "spatula" to me. :)

You've been having sauna weather too? Much sympathy for that. We'll blame Queensland, or somewhere (sub-)tropical like that, exporting its climate :-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
I got drenched in a thunderstorm coming home but it doesn't seem to have cleared the air at all.

No, sadly, it doesn't. I welcome the rain we've been having lately, but it does seem to make things even muggier when it stops :-(

Heh, the "Donna and Vila" one -- poor Vila!

Someone who can out-talk him!

I'm glad you like the card - I couldn't resist buying it when I saw it. :)

Thanks for your card - I chuckled at the thought of Vila etc trying to figure out ways of seeing what was in the presents, tee hee.

The weather is indeed like a sauna at the moment, and there was 90% humidity today according to the weather-thingy at work. Bah...

I thought you'd made it! It's very clever and effective.

Thank you for my card! I love the drawing of Vila on the inside :)
