Dude, those are way more experty than anything I've done! I know I'm not that good at the actual design stuff, that's why I didn't join the comm (plus it'd feel like a competition somehow, and that's not what it's about for me). But then I feel most at home with colour tweakage and slapping stupid captions on when it comes to iconage.

How can you say that with icons like this one under your belt? These were relatively simple.

Because that's more about blending two pictures together rather than doing designery layouts, I think? It's more of an illustration of one single thing (even if that has two beings in it, I sort of think of it as one combined Lion!Jenna figure), whereas I see a lot of graphic design as being architechtural, more about composition with lots and lots of elements, like the stars and things you've used there, and all those boxes and curly brushes and items people use. It's like the page I'm viewing right now is designer-y graphic design with lots of well-balanced fields forming a whole, and the two icons I see are illustrations within the whole. Hm, come to think of it, maybe that's one of the reasons why I didn't become a graphic designer. The Lion!Jenna has about the maximum amount of elements I ever use, and even in that icon I tend to see it as just a picture with some text on, the actual photomanipulation is one whole element, the placing of the manip, the highlights and the text are very rough and basic composition, really.

I always think my icons are too simple because I don't use a lot of effects and textures, but I'm pleased people seem to like these. That's why I joined that comm, so that it would force me to try new techniques.

And dude, that Jenna icon, that Sparrow one, and this one are lovely. The light is gorgeous and the text is part of the whole thing.

I do get that. What I've found for me, though, is that participating in icon challenges makes me stretch, where otherwise I'd just end up falling into a rut.

They're lovely. I'll take Servalan, too, if that's all right; more so that I can look at it whenever I like than anything else. I doubt I'd use it unless I wrote a Servalan fic. Should I ask kerravonsen if she minds?

All your Servalan icons are beautiful - I know you don't have many, but th ones you do have are well classy - and the colour really adds something to this one.
