PicoWriMo

I'm thinking about doing [livejournal.com profile] picowrimo because it's a great idea (500 or 5000 words in November) and a very clever name to boot, but I don't know what to write. I have several unwritten stories, but they're all fairly angsty. I want a change. I want to write something light and fun. Any ideas?

I have written:

I will not write baby fic; either the crew having them or being turned into them.

If anyone has any ideas, please comment here. If nothing grabs me that I think I can whack out 5000 words on, I won't sign up, but will just finish off the Star Trek crossover I started for a Multiverse orphan request ages ago, poor neglected thing.

It is November, which is the time for ghost stories, and I love ghost stories, so how about a Liberator ghost story?

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 10:57 am (UTC)(link)
Bearing in mind that it's not spring here of course... ;-D

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, I was about to say that ghost stories belong to cold, dark evenings.

It's an idea though.

BTW, there's no particular rule at PicoWriMo that you have to write something new. Nor does it have to be a single project. I think a couple of people are planning to do single chapters of an ongoing project, or else finishing up a series of short pieces. So if you settle on the crossover, or a series of short fics, you're more than welcome at PicoWriMo.

I did think about finishing off part 2 of my PGP and the Star Trek crossover; together, the unwritten bits might make 5000 words. I'll make up my mind today. It's between that and a Narnia crossover now, I think.

I vote for the Narnia crossover!

I'll have to think up a plot now!

Vila hides in an antique wardrobe. (The hiding is easy; the antique wardrobe is harder).

Avon becomes fascinated with the dimensional portal, wants to see if he can use it to augment the teleport.

If they come across any Talking Beasts, Avon points out that they're probably hairy aliens. 8-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-01 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
I'm already getting ideas; the wardrobe will be on Xenon, and Avon will have to go there too, because his reaction to Narnia will be so sceptical and scientific and outraged, and besides, he's fun to write with Vila. :-D

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 11:20 am (UTC)(link)
Ummm... maybe one of my more fluffy bunnies might inspire you (if only to something completely different...)

Our Heroes are hiding... in the tackiest of tacky honeymoon suites of a luxury hotel.

Vila's introduction to the Treasure Room (be still my beating heart...)

Someone's hurt (not seriously) and Cally decides this is the time to try out all those fabulous yoo-beaut medical thingies on their fabulous new ship.

One of Vila's dear old friends finds a way onto the ship...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure I can get 5000 words from most of those, and I did Cally doing remedies in Cold Comfort. I like the idea of Vila encountering an old friend though.

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually it occurs to me that maybe you could combine two of the ideas you get, or two of your own, and create double chaos for Our Heroes...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I could! I thought Jarriere could be Vila's old friend, but I'm leaning towards finishing my two WIPs or writing a Narnia crossover. Eep. It's November already.

[identity profile] hafren.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 11:39 am (UTC)(link)
How about a Dear Brutus (http://www.classic-literature.co.uk/scottish-authors/james-barrie/dear-brutus/) scenario where everyone gets what he thinks is his dearest wish? It would turn angsty if I did it but I'm sure you could keep it fun!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
It did turn very angsty when I wrote that for Dayna, Hal, and Lauren. The only thing is, I've done wishes with genie Blake and in a very short story with the Christmas Fairy.

Thanks for the link; I shall have to read that when I get home.

[identity profile] mistraltoes.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, the universe always needs another story about Vila and Jarriere! I like [livejournal.com profile] hafren's suggestion, as well.

I can see that I'm going to spend part of my annual Christmas fic-reading marathon over on your site; I haven't read most of those you listed above. They sound fun!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
:-) All my fiction (including LJ stuff) is hung off this page (http://www.farsight.net.nz/fiction/index.htm).

Jarriere... I could make him an olf friend of Vila (suggested elsewhere).

[identity profile] vocatus-fortis.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
How about teleport malfunction that accidentally duplicates one (or more) of the crew?

No, wait a minute. That's been done - "Sevenfold Crown".

[identity profile] hafren.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
But not well done....

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm. I did have a horror idea for that, but then I wasn't sure whether the original Avon had a soul...

[identity profile] kerr-avon.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't believe in souls, auras, or ectoplasm.

[identity profile] kerr-avon.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Vila unlocks a Wardrobe and escapes into Narnia?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, I've actually thought of that before? He is the Lucy of the Liberator, isn't he? [lets plot tribbles multiply...]

[identity profile] kerr-avon.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
He won't like it if he meets the Queen.
kerravonsen: (Avon1)

[personal profile] kerravonsen 2006-10-31 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, but it's obviously Avon who will meet the Queen. And betray them all...

Or not. Avon also fits the "sceptical Susan" role.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
:-) I wouldn't map them onto the children anyway, but create a new adventure like the one with Eustace and Jill.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I think it would be more fun if it was set in Narnia, but Vila was entirely free to have his own adventures rather than retelling a story with different characters.
kerravonsen: Edmund + Aslan: "Ransomed Soul" (ransomed)

[personal profile] kerravonsen 2006-11-01 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
True, it's better that way. The other advantage of course being that you could set it in any Narnian era you like.
kerravonsen: Edmund + Aslan: "Ransomed Soul" (ransomed)

[personal profile] kerravonsen 2006-11-01 09:32 am (UTC)(link)
What, like set it some time between "The Magician's Nephew" and "The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe", for example? I think that's the biggest gap of unaccounted time in Narnian history. Then you have the rule of the Witch before P,S,E & L arrived. Then you have the time between them and Caspian, where the Telmarines were ruling. Then you have Caspian, and then Rilian. I can't remember how much time there was between Rilian and the events of "The Last Battle".

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-01 09:36 am (UTC)(link)
Then you have the time between them and Caspian, where the Telmarines were ruling.

I was planning on going for that, or during the reign of the four, like The Horse and his Boy.

[identity profile] reapermum.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Vila discovering seasons (especially spring) through his early expeditions out of the domes.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I've actually done a bit of that in flashbacks in the Big PGP ('Lynx') but I doubt I could get 5000 words out of it.

I suppose I should sign up and finish the Star Trek crossover and part 2 of said PGP at which point it will be postable.

[identity profile] reapermum.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm looking forward to the Big PGP. On the other hand, I don't like it when people post WIPs and never come back with the conclusion. If they can't be bothered to finish fleshing out the plot line I would like that as a minimum so I can see where the story would have gone. I'm glad you're holding back until there is a satisfying point to break the reading.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-10-31 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
'Lynx' will be a story in parts, each one standalone except for part 1, and that's because it got so long I decided to break it into two. When I've finished part 2, I'll be able to post it. Every part after that will be a separate adventure that also advances the story, finishing at a place that will still be satisfying if I get hit by a bus. :-)

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2006-11-05 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
I think the 'body swaps' one has a great deal of potential... ;-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-05 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Those are ones I've done; check out the link for each. :-)

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2006-11-05 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
I knew that... *scuttles off to read*
