Lurid SF book cover

I don't want to post about depressing RL when the unreal sort is so much better (that's what URL stands for, right?) so here, have a book cover. It's from an old collection of SF short stories I got for half-price from the pawn shop today, and the maniac in the picture reminded me of a certain disliked Blake's 7 character. I should explain for those who don't know B7 that well that he preferred life as a labourer in the construction grades because Real Men use their muscles, not their brains.

nutter

The alien architect regretted criticising Jarvik's construction work.

It is, but I think he'd complain the artist hadn't quite done justice to his rippling muscles.

Sorry (to [livejournal.com profile] vilakins) that RL isn't behaving as it should.

He'd probably have preferred to bare his manly chest.

It never does.

Hey, what do you think of 20-20 matches? I saw one this week (Australia vs SA) and it was fun except for the players having confusing nicknames on their backs. A lot better than cricket max (which is a bit of a circus) and high-scoring too; Martyn (AKA Marto) almost got a century.

I haven't seen very much of it: I did go to a Lancashire v Yorkshire match in the first year we had it, but for various reasons arrived during the second innings, and we won pretty early on in that, so I saw only 20 minutes of Yorkshire batting rather badly. And then I had to wait for ages to leave, as the ground was full which means at least an hour before it's worth queuing for the tram, though luckily a couple of colleagues eventually offered to go way out of their way to drive me home. So it felt like a lot of effort for not much cricket. I don't really bother with one-day games much; I used to go to Lord's finals, but Lancashire did so many I got bored with those too.

This was the first one I'd seen and it was excellent. The 'Gabba had a record crowd to be pleased too.
