Lurid SF book cover

I don't want to post about depressing RL when the unreal sort is so much better (that's what URL stands for, right?) so here, have a book cover. It's from an old collection of SF short stories I got for half-price from the pawn shop today, and the maniac in the picture reminded me of a certain disliked Blake's 7 character. I should explain for those who don't know B7 that well that he preferred life as a labourer in the construction grades because Real Men use their muscles, not their brains.

nutter

The alien architect regretted criticising Jarvik's construction work.

Oh, my god, the resemblance is deeply disturbing. :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 09:10 am (UTC)(link)
Frightening, isn't it? And so far it's got no relation to any of the stories in the book.

It is, but I think he'd complain the artist hadn't quite done justice to his rippling muscles.

Sorry (to [livejournal.com profile] vilakins) that RL isn't behaving as it should.

He'd probably have preferred to bare his manly chest.

It never does.

Hey, what do you think of 20-20 matches? I saw one this week (Australia vs SA) and it was fun except for the players having confusing nicknames on their backs. A lot better than cricket max (which is a bit of a circus) and high-scoring too; Martyn (AKA Marto) almost got a century.

I haven't seen very much of it: I did go to a Lancashire v Yorkshire match in the first year we had it, but for various reasons arrived during the second innings, and we won pretty early on in that, so I saw only 20 minutes of Yorkshire batting rather badly. And then I had to wait for ages to leave, as the ground was full which means at least an hour before it's worth queuing for the tram, though luckily a couple of colleagues eventually offered to go way out of their way to drive me home. So it felt like a lot of effort for not much cricket. I don't really bother with one-day games much; I used to go to Lord's finals, but Lancashire did so many I got bored with those too.

This was the first one I'd seen and it was excellent. The 'Gabba had a record crowd to be pleased too.

I'm sorry that RL is depressing. *hugs*

Thanks. [hugs back]

[identity profile] snowgrouse.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 11:06 am (UTC)(link)
OW, that is a scary likeness.

Also, *hugs.*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I was going to B7-ise any likely covers but that's totally untouched. Bloody hell, no wonder I can't sleep.

[hugs]

Excellent pic. Go you for spotting the resemblance.

I had to get the book when I noticed that.

[identity profile] minnie13.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 11:51 am (UTC)(link)
That is uncanny!! Run! Run away!! :))

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 12:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Cute cat! Is it yours?

[identity profile] minnie13.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
One of them yes :) That one is Tabitha :) a long haired Tabby and i have another one Sebastian who is ginger and white short hair.

She was yawning when i took the picture and it looks for the world like she is laughing :)

Either that or possessed :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-01-16 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
:-D I took a picture of Claudia as a kitten in the middle of a huge meow and it's so funny: she's the spiky ugly little kitten from outer space. I should scan it one day.

[identity profile] minnie13.livejournal.com 2006-01-16 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
LOL! id love to see it :)

ive got to take a funny one of Sebastian too. Ive got a Caspar (ghost shot - close up) shot of him but its just white with eyes and a nose. Its very funny though :))

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-01-16 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
My brother took an amazing one of his cat which was just nose and eyes--beautiful jade green ones. I should scan that too. Of course I have to find it first. All my photos are in jumbled order in a drawer because I never got round to putting them in an album.

[identity profile] minnie13.livejournal.com 2006-01-16 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL! no rush. If you ever get around to it, id love a look :)

[identity profile] linda-joyce.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)
That cover is scarily like a certain MCP.

So sorry about the job, you will get something some day. I didn't wish you luck because I seem to be a Jonah for such things I will do next time, perhaps my curse has repolerised.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 12:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I should never have said anything.

[identity profile] hafren.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
oh my! It is him!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
The book was published in the UK. If it didn't pre-date Jarvik, I'd wonder.

[identity profile] executrix.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 01:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry. I hope the icon (Serenity, going forward in 2006) comes true.

And you can always airbrush in the manly pectorals and chest hair.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks, but I'm waiting for the spike. :-(

You know, I think it also looks like "Sikes" from Alien Nation.

*hugs you for your depressing RL*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Was he a sexist bastard too? Sorry, I can't remember much of that show.

Actually he was quite sweet - one of those "Han Solo" tough guy on the outside, compassionate guy on the inside types. The Mavrick Cop steriotype.

[identity profile] reapermum.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what book covers ought to look like.

Hope RL brightens up for you.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Not with Jarvik, though!

Thanks.

[identity profile] labingi.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
I can only echo what others have said: the resemblance is uncanny! And I hope RL is better soon.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I shall ignore it as long as I can and enjoy not working while the weather's good. Too hot to work anyway.

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
This is what it is always like inside Jarvik's mind (shudder).

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, action hero Jarvik. Look at the size of his weapon. Spot the man with the small penis.

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
Lurid cover alert - quick, get the sunglasses! (grin). The guy reminds me of the guy who played Apollo(?) in the original Battlestar Galactica. Hope things get better for you...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
I never saw that but I think I've seen pictures of him.

[identity profile] kerravongenius.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
That's definitely Jarvik, unless they're being cloned somewhere. Just think, an endless production line of misogynistic fruitbats!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
That was another of Justin's projects.
