World-famous in Bristol

Well, not really. :-) Someone e-mailed me a couple of days ago and asked for permission to use the B7 cartoon faces I did a while ago on my site. They want them as what they called 'talking heads' on an e-learning site for 14-19 year olds called Biz/ed, run by the University of Bristol. I was delighted to give them the go-ahead and now you can see me, Soolin, and Dayna talking about business (scroll down). I hope they use some of the faces with more expression like Vila, Avon, Gan and Tufty.

I have no idea how they found my site. [Edit]: By googling for cartoon faces. And the avatar site I used seems to have disappeared which is probably why they don't acknowledge it.

Oh yeah, and the plumber came this morning and fixed the taps in the guest bathroom, so no more gushers (or 'eshers' as The Meaning of Liff called them) wetting guests in embarrassing places. I just have to tidy up my computer corner which is strewn with books, zines, and papers, go me! And now the house is tidy, we'll yet again swear we'll keep it that way. And probably fail, given Greg's obsession with hoarding everything he gets, including irreparably broken stuff.

I see they've marked you as having a copyright on those faces. Um, do you, if the parts were actually drawn by the generator site? (See, this is what I need a business course for...)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
I give a link to the avatar creation site, so she knew I'd used it. I suppose it's analogous to using PS to make images, but who knows. Eh, the editor of the site must know a lot more than I do. Business and law make my eyes glaze.

[identity profile] redstarrobot.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
But PS makes original images from scratch; I don't think you can be attributed with the copyright of images assembled from a kit, not if they have the elements of the identikit copyrighted. I'm not convinced the editor of the site does know copyright law. :)

Oh well, not a problem if, as is likely, no one follows up on it. And not really your problem, anyway.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
I can ask her to change it to include whoever made that site.

[identity profile] snowgrouse.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
I thought of the copyright thing myself. It's a bit odd they didn't notice they were made with a generator. Tsk.

But they are lovely, anyway. And yeah, Nico, do let them know about the site thingummy. Would be unfair to the creator if nobody did.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
I explain on the page they got them from that I made them with a generator, and give the link. They can't have missed it.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 11:47 am (UTC)(link)
The site's disappeared. I suppose that's why they didn't acknowledge it.

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
And they're teaching people to argue! Ha! :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
And who better than the B7 lot?

[identity profile] mistraltoes.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Go, you! :D About the house as well as the pictures.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks!

[identity profile] hafren.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
Brilliant! Ans ironic, given that Soolin's main use for human resources is as target practice! Actually, come to think of it, that's how HR in our place works....

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
I am not a human resource. I am a free woman.

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
Very cool!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
[grin] I feel like a real person!

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, cool! Go you!

Good news about the plumber - it sounds like things are coming together just in time!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yep! They arrive tomorrow and it will be all go: my friend is one of the bounciest wittiest extroverts I know. It'll be fun! :-D

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 08:19 am (UTC)(link)
Hurrah! Have a lovely time!

[identity profile] zoefruitcake.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
ha! They do look good on the site :0)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
They do, don't they! And I almost deleted that page when I did the identikit ones.

[identity profile] communicator.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
Superb. 'We need pics of people arguing' - 'Sounds like Blakes 7'

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 09:19 am (UTC)(link)
They need Avon in there.

Hurrah on both fronts!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks!

[identity profile] spacefall.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 11:02 am (UTC)(link)
That's pretty hilarious!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
It is! Have you heard of them? BTW they found my site by googling for cartoon faces.

[identity profile] kerr-avon.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
*Grin* It's only a pity it's not animated and interactive. I would love to see Dayna and Soolin arguing opposite sides of any argument.

[identity profile] kerr-avon.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
If guns were involved, I'd watch via monitor. *grin*

[identity profile] reapermum.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
And how many new rebels will Blake acquire when they follow the link to your site? Have a fun time with your friends.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh! I hadn't thought of that: new fans? You never know, what with the DVDs out now.

Congradulations on the house and the cartoon faces, and I HAVE to say that "World Famous in Bristol" sounds like the name of a punk band or a novel or something.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
It's from the L&P ads here: Lemon and Paeroa drinks. They take satirical looks at NZ culture and end with 'L&P: World Famous in NZ since ages ago'. To the British commentator who thought it was stupid? It's a joke.

The Wikipedia even has a page here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L&P) with a good explanation of the slogan.

Oh, COOL!

...I think Peter Jackson brought whole new meaning to the phrase "World Famous in NZ" though. :D

[identity profile] ch1pper.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
groovy!!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-09-23 11:19 am (UTC)(link)
[grin]

[identity profile] daiseechain.livejournal.com 2005-09-25 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Excellent! The faces are cute. How bizzare is it to see your own face in an educational text?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-09-26 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it's a pretty stylised face so it doesn't bother me.
