I've been having a discussion about Christmas stories and traditions, and secret Santa which reminded me of this Farmers (department store) TV ad about one. There are not many ads I don't FF through or mute, but these are among them.

I should add that the milk and biscuits/cookies are an American import. Note: yes, it's summer here.

There's also a cute series of short ads about a man called Noel who might be Santa working at New World supermarket:

I think that level of milk-drinking might draw stares even in America!

I don't really get adults drinking plain milk. I do love flavoured milk (especially coffee or caramel) and lattes, but plain: yuk. I think a few generations of kids here were traumatised by being made to drink warm milk at primary school; I used to either give mine away or downright refuse. Apparently they're bringing that back. Oy.

A Canadian friend suggested I try dipping biscuits (cookies to you) in milk, but nope. Tea (also without milk) is my dip of choice.

They gave out Santa hats at the gym today but even though they were very thin felt, they were far too hot to wear when exercising; all of us but one abandoned them early on. I have great respect for those who dress up as Santa in this weather.

I used to have a Santa hat icon but I weeded a lot out when I decided not to pay for extras on LJ.

If I were to give out novelty head wear for Christmas, in the middle of summer (especially if I were the proprietor of a gym), I'd give out sweatbands -- I even found one on Amazon:

Definitely it was how MUCH milk he drank so quickly. I drink milk and I couldn't glugg that much in one go. ;^)

I'm a milk drinker, but it has to be really cold. I like flavoured milk, too. Here, Santa gets a glass of milk or a glass of sherry and a mince pie and a carrot for the reindeer. I am embarrassed to say that the 2017 Farmers advert made me a bit teary ;)

Sherry and a mince pie (or a beer) are traditional here, I've heard carrots might be too, but I fear the milk and biscuits will take over because of US TV and films.

There are other Christmas ads queued after that one and I had to stop watching for the same reason.

I don't watch a lot either, but Greg often lets me know of the very few good ads, and after that I'll sometimes slow down to see them.
