I agree about Emma Peel (though Cathy Gale - Honor Blackman - I vaguely recall as rather good too) but then Diana Rigg is wonderful. In anything.

I gather Honor Blackman was very good, but I never saw those eps. I didn't like Tara King at all, or Purdie much. Emma Peel defined The Avengers for me; she and Steed haven't dated at all, though their co-stars often make me laugh in their bizarre swinging 60s outfits.
