vilakins: Vila with stars superimposed (thief of hearts)

Several excellent things and one not so

I had a wonderful day out today, but I'll post about it (and two other lovely surprises) tomorrow--along with pictures--because I'm off to bed now. In the meantime, here's what Vila's mum might have bought him for his birthday. ;-)

Another nice surprise will turn up later. This week's New Scientist offers a DVD of Hubble: 15 years of discovery to the first 40,000 readers who responded, so Greg entered our code number on their website and snagged us one. Yay.

The bad thing is that our bruiser of a cat, Vic, has yet another abscess, possibly two, on his head from fighting, so I have to take him to the vet tomorrow. [sigh] He's an expensive cat for an ex-stray.

Belated very happy birthday wishes; I'm glad you had a lovely day!

Poor Vic, I hope it goes all right tomorrow.

almost exactly what I was going to write

Ok, as above, but with bells on x

Thanks! I hope you got your typing through OK. G'night!

Thank you!

It's his own fault. He'll be all right; this is his third or fourth and he's tough.

Yay! I look forward to hearing all about it!

Good luck to the kitty, too. :)

Soon!

He should be fine; they said it wasn't too bad. I can pick him up later today.

I'm so glad you had a good day! I'll look forward to hearing about it, and the surprises!

Poor Vic! I hope the vet visit isn't too traumatic.

He does kitten-squeaks all the way there and back (luckily it's not far), and also trembles, the silly thing. It's an odd thing in a big tough fighter like him. The poor guy's left eye was half-closed this morning from the swelling above it. I should be able to pick him up this afternoon.

He thinks I should see the other cat, but I'd rather not.

Surprises are coming up!

Yayness!

And the gadget is just perfect. *mad cackle*

Hope Vic gets well soon, silly cat. Hugs to you all.

Yeah, I fancy one of those safes! For literary research, you know.

Vic should be fine; he's feeling a bit sorry for himself though. It'll be pink antibiotic pills and wound bathing for him for a week or so though. Luckily, he takes his pills in food, unlike the girls.

Somebody should use that gadget in a story!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-04-28 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, a challenge! :-D I'll keep it in mind, but I signed on for three ficathons during a bout of temporary insanity. And Astro's trying to talk me into another one.

When my mother's cat had a bad abscess, she found bathing it with lavender essential oil helped to get rid of the infection fast.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-04-28 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
We find melaleuca (tea-tree) oil is also very good, but we use a good pure brand not cut with alcohol. We've managed to avoid a lot of vet visits that way, but this time we didn't see the infection till it was bad enough to swell. We bathed the wounds last night, but he was worse this morning. You have to catch it early and while the wound's still open. :-( The one above his eye swelled so much in the night, his eye's half closed.

Love the gadget, but you do have to wonder about the sort of people who dreamt it up as a toy in the first place...

My cat is also an ex-stray. He's the most expensive cat I've ever owned, for exactly the same reason. And it just occurred to me last night that he might not just be fighting other cats. There's foxes round here too.

Eep. Now there's a thought. I've seen a possum in our garden; I think it lives in the trees by the water tower.

I think it's fun, and I'm actually tempted; it's not a bad price. If you go to the original link (http://scientificsonline.com/product.asp?pn=3080298&bhcd2=1114834255), they're aiming it at people who want to play spy games.
