Ficlet: Missed
So last week on b7friday we had to find the fifth whole sentence on page 23 of the nearest book and use it in the story. Mine is the first line. 160 words.
Missed
One of their sales slogans was "Peace through superior firepower". Cally doubted that as it assumed one's enemies were rational. She liked the last two words though, so she contacted the Independent Arms Consortium's representative.
"It sounds better than 'massacre the opposition with superior firepower'," he said, amused.
"Oh, I don’t know," said Cally. "After all, that's what most of your customers want to do. Right, here's what I need. A light but rugged and powerful hand-held medium-range energy weapon with accurate sights and the ability to be recharged from any source including solar."
"Going hunting?"
"You could say that."
"I could show you some very interesting and attractive models."
Cally was pleased with her choice and it had served her well. A pity she put it down while they were setting charges in the Saurian Major communications centre and was teleported without it. The Liberator guns were good enough for close work, but she missed her Mellanby Sniper 3000.
The book is the Star Trek Encyclopaedia and it's beside me because I'm writing a B7 / TNG crossover for a Multiverse orphan request.
