Frell

Bastards! I had a contract starting tomorrow for 2-3 weeks. They just cancelled it as the person who was leaving that I was replacing decided to stay on for another two weeks. They had the cheek to ask if I could start in February. Sod them. I bloody hope I have something else by then.

I went for an interview for a 6 months contract a couple of weeks ago but I have to wait for someone to come back from holiday next week for a second and maybe third interview. There are two of us up for this one, and it's well-paid too. I know someone who works there but I don't have the self-confidence to think I have much of a chance.

Oh. bummer. :( Good luck on the other one, though. You never know, you may have a better chance than you think. *crosses fingers for you*

I can't muster any self-confidence at this point. [longs for chocolate but has sworn off bad food]

Oh, what a pain!

But the other contract sounds good, and if they want a second interview that's an encouraging sign. Why shouldn't it be you?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
There's two of us up for it and they're interviewing both of us again. I suppose I have a 50-50 chance.

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, damn, I'm sorry. Bastards - that's just unprofessional.

I hope that the interview goes well next week

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I just act myself in inteviews which probably isn't a good thing. But hey, WYSIWYG.

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
But hey, WYSIWYG

Dead right. There's no point in pretending to be someone you're not: it'll just end up with everyone unhappy, including you.

[identity profile] executrix.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
1. Well, it's very nearly February. If I were you, I'd tell them, "Why, certainly! I'd love to start in February!" while continuing to seek other work; then, if you have a better offer, sweetly inform them that no, you won't be able to work for them because 'aving a better 'ole you 'ave gone to it.
2. You're probably better off not feeling too secure about that other place. Because then you won't be crushingly disappointed if you don't get the gig, and will be pleasantly surprised if they show sense.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
1. Very appropriate. I've been out of work for more than a month and feel a bit shell-shocked.
2. If I get it I will be delighted about the pay, if I don't I can be pleased about the freedom of short contracts and time between them. Provided I get them of course.

Meh. Good luck with the other stuff, though. *huggles, offers Vila screengrabs*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh. Wants Vilas! [longs for one she could cuddle up to for consolation and extreme Vila-ness]

[identity profile] snowgrouse.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
See my latest post. *grin*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
IOW I'd settle for Vila grabs, leave out the screen bit.

[identity profile] snowgrouse.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
*offers bits of Vila*

No, that didn't sound right...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
No, it didn't. [pouts] Want all of him.

[identity profile] mistraltoes.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 09:23 am (UTC)(link)
No fair, me wants some, too!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 10:13 am (UTC)(link)
We can share. We can both have all of him some of the time. (No wonder he goes to sleep on the flight deck).

Oh, how rude!

I hope the other interview goes well.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks. How's your job search going?

I handed some applications on Monday. I probably won't hear anything until they close, but I'm fairly hopeful that I'll get a couple of interviews out of this lot.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure you'll do well. But good luck!

I hope so, and thanks!

[identity profile] zoefruitcake.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 08:18 am (UTC)(link)
So cheeky, them and you.

Oh and I want to grab Vila too... ;0)

[identity profile] vila-restal.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 10:21 am (UTC)(link)
[Vila looks delighted and slightly nervous] Just be gentle! I bruise easily, you know!

[identity profile] pinkdormouse.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 08:34 am (UTC)(link)
Grrr!

Good luck with the other stuff.

Gina

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 10:15 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks!

[identity profile] communicator.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 09:17 am (UTC)(link)
I agree with Executrix about saying 'yes' to the Feb offer, but with your fingers crossed.

Of course you are in with a good chance for the other contract. Heavens at the very least you are in the top 2 candidates, that says a good deal about your suitability in itself.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 10:19 am (UTC)(link)
There are only two candidates. Not many people have the computer language required for this job (or want to). In many ways it's a step back from what I've done, but it's good pay, good hours, and hardly any user support. I'm not holding my breath though.

[identity profile] mistraltoes.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, no! How disappointing. I hope you get the other job, though.

Now, why don't you go and write some Vila fic to take your mind off it?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-01-19 10:12 am (UTC)(link)
I do have to write a [livejournal.com profile] b7friday one, not to mention something for [livejournal.com profile] theatrical_muse. But when I'm depressed, I like to escape into someone else's fictional world.

[identity profile] daiseechain.livejournal.com 2005-01-20 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Major suckage. If they were that lousy before you started, you probably didn't really need the stress of working with them anyway. Hope you get something real soon.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-01-20 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
I've worked for the company twice before; they're pretty good. I'm annoyed with the person in question who suddenly decided to stay on and stuff up all the arrangements which had been made.

[identity profile] tiamatschild.livejournal.com 2005-01-20 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm sorry! Dad does contract work and that's happened to him before. It's rude, dumb, and really very inconsiderate of the fact that you have to eat.

*hugs*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-01-20 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! Doing it the day before was mean as I have no chance of finding something else quickly.
