Drabble: Force de Frappe

Written for redstarrobot who was having a bad and chocolateless day. This is as close as I could get to the chocolate frappe she longed for.

Force de Frappe

"Vila!" Cally stared at the dripping walls of the galley. "What happened?"

Vila looked sheepish. "I was making a chocolate frap."

"It's pronounced frah-pay," Avon drawled. "And putting the lid on the blender is usually advised."

"I did," Vila said. "But the last one was a bit flat so I fiddled and increased the revs and it, well..."

Avon laughed. "Force de frappe is Outer Gallic for strike force. Particularly nuclear."

"A chocolate explosion." Cally reached out, touched her finger to Vila's cheek, and licked it. "Two of my favourite things."

Vila looked wistful. "Pity it's not three."

Cally smiled.

In Boston, it is indeed pronounced "frap."

It's said 'frah-pay' here. I'd say that's because it's a past participle (frappé), but then we pronounce 'filet' as 'fill-it' unless it's followed by 'de mignon' so I doubt there's any actual logic at work.
