I thought I'd come out Delta lower class, but then I've always had a sneaking hope that the mother ship might come back for me.

I suspect we're too educated to be considered lower class... what, in some Irish autobiography I was reading, was described as the "bohemian class", over-educated and under-paid.

Gosh, is everyone alternative? Seems to undermine its status as, well, alternative. Though in my case it only just edged out middle class, which wasn't very far ahead of upper middle class, which is almost certainly the correct answer.
