What I've done and am about to do

Yes, I've been slack. Slack all round about posting, writing, you name it.

Work's been a bit fraught lately and today was worse than usual. The run-in I had with a colleague about her rudeness got, as always, turned back on me. Sigh. Note to self: It's always my fault. Second note: keep feelings to yourself. Not doing so will never work out.

Anyway.

Things I have yet to post:
  • all the lovely spring photos I took (even though it's now summer, i.e. hot and sticky if mostly grey)
  • photos from the air show two weeks ago which was on a gorgeous summer's day
  • photos from the very cool upholstery course I went on last Sunday
And tonight I'm off to see The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies 12:01am, yes, one minute past midnight which is the first public showing in the world. As usual we'll be in the luxury cinema and will order food and coffee to be delivered to our adjustable leather reclining seats. A pity the dragon earring I ordered hasn't turned up yet.

In the meantime I have to catch up with OUaT.

Sorry you have been having work issues. It's hard when people don't treat you right but it seems that they always think it's your fault. Being rude to you is a form of verbal bullying and people like that are always good at twisting things. I was on the end of that very badly some years ago and it doesn't feel nice.

Enjoy the film! I can't wait to see it :)

Work conflicts are always a pain. Good luck with dealing with it. :-)

Wow! The Hobbit! I don't think it's showing here until Boxing Day.

As for your work, darn it, you have the same rights as everyone else. Don't put up with their bullshit! And don't give yourself bullshit either! Scrub out both those "notes to self", please. They are rubbish.

Is there a fine line you can walk between "complaining" and "not putting up with bullshit"? I mean, complaining always puts people on the defensive, so of course she's going to try to put all the blame on you. Can you quietly, in a dignified way, say "no" to whatever negative/rude stuff she is spewing at you? I mean, you can't change her, but you can change your reaction to her. I don't care about her, I care about you. I don't want you to feel so down, so down on yourself. *hugs*

Don't necessarily pretend to ignore it. Ask questions instead. Pretend you're a psychologist.

Aw, sorry rl is being, well, rl. Hope you have/had a lovely time at The HObbit to make up for it! (I'm not sure I would ever be awake enough for a film at midnight, but enjoy - it does sound great.)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2014-12-10 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, not sure if I'm doing that again now that all six films are over. Pity, it was a nice seasonal tradition and going at midnight made it extra special.

I forget to say: I ordered some little metal figures of Vila, Avon, Blake, and got a free Servalan, and they came today. Model painting in the holidays, including a Spitfire I have. :-D

Aw, they sound cool! You'll have to show us the finished results once you get round to them! :-)

It was an excellent distraction!

Hello again!

Man, having to deal with other human beings is one of the worst parts of work. Or possibly of life in general, but at least in other parts of life, you often have more control over who you have to put up with.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2014-12-10 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. I generally only ever have problems at work, I suppose because of the old "you're not like me; learn to be" thing (and the "I can behave the way I like; you can't" attitude of this particular person). It's much more tolerant outside work; I get on with everyone.

These days the effort to crop, resize, and upload photos seems too hard, and then there's my neglected website and two trope_bingo stories to write. It's so much easier just to open a book.

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2014-12-10 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I am hardly going to disapprove of opening books. :)

[identity profile] nautile26.livejournal.com 2014-12-10 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope you enjoyed the film; how good is it to see such an early release. :)

Did you have an extraordinary Spring? We certainly did; I can't remember such a profusion of flowers in the garden, and the perfume! Even in the bush, the gum blossoms were so abundant that from a distance it looked like the trees were covered in snow.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2014-12-11 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
That sounds amazing!

I think it was pretty much as usual here, and we have different flowers all year round in the garden so probably some of them were hold-overs from winter. But I'm hoping overseas people will find the photos interesting. Plus there are some garden cats too. :-)

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2014-12-13 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry to hear about work. :(

Hope the film was great. :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2014-12-13 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think it was quite as good as the other two despite the impressive battle sequences since it didn't have the character development and flashes of humour of those. And not enough Bilbo!

Still, it'll be even more spectacular in 3D. January perhaps? :-)

[deploys a Bilbo-like Vila icon]

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2014-12-14 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure it will look better in 3D in January. :)

Bilbo and Vila would get along, I think.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2014-12-14 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
They would! :-D
