Happy New Year! We still have just over two hours left of 2012 as I type, and I'm not sure whether LJ is going to see out 2012, never mind 2013, given how terribly slow it is at the moment!

Here's a clue from today's crossword that you might like: US author stirred Mavis in composition about love (6 letters). I also liked: as they grow up they grow down (5 letters).

With the letters that I had from interlocking answers it had to be "ducks" rather than "eider", which possibility hadn't occurred to me. Your answer is clearly equally valid.

It's strange how slow LJ is, given that the number of people using it seems to have greatly reduced over the last few years. I can only think that it's the victim of a very long-sustained DoS attack.
