It was a mix cake (well 2 cake mixes, because the sheet pan was big). I WISH it was almond meal.
All the mixes I've found are some combination of rice flour & potato starch. I can't really properly digest those starches, either. It's not the major problem of gluten, but not good. I'm eating it anyway, because HEY once a year, Imma gonna have cake.
Yeah, I thought about the cats. But I didn't want to inquire. He had 3 cats- one disappeared soon after he moved (I suspect predators) and the oldest one had to be put to sleep a few months ago, but there was still the youngest one, the last I heard.
I think the reason I don't want to ask is so that I can imagine the cat has been given to a new home.

BTW I won't offer condolences for your brother, but I did worry a bit about his cat.
