vilakins: (spring (kowhai))

Another catchup

Once again I've been slack posting, so here's various news.

Ashley's crystals have gone so now she, well, all of them, are on maintenance bladder-health biscuits which are in my opinion far too palatable as Ashley went right off her wet food. However a couple of weeks later she's eating it with her old gusto which is good as they get a lot of water that way and it's far better for them. She knew I was writing about her as she's just come and squeaked at me. :-)

It is spring and the weather is glorious after a very windy week, almost summer-like. The hammock's up, there's washing on the line, and I can hear a distant lawn-mower through all the open doors, the sound of a lazy Sunday.

We saw Planes last week, and because we booked online were given a free toy. I have El Chupacabra, a favourite character. Very cute film, esp for someone who pretended to be a plane (a Spitfire to be exact) as a kid, referring to arms and fingers as wings and ailerons, and coming in for a perfect three-point landing at mealtimes.

And last night at the late showing we saw Gravity. On the biggest screen in the southern hemisphere. Wow. Absolutely stunning graphics and a gripping story. It deserved its 5 stars in spades and we both had Gravity dreams all night.

And Sebastian turned 3 this week. I will do a special picspam in his honour but that will be later as I'm going to read in the hammock now.

I'm really hoping to be able to get out to see Gravity. It seems like something that really, really needs to be seen on the big screen.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2013-10-06 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
It really does.

What a lovely way to spend a Sunday. Mine will be busier as I have just come back from walking the girls and Losyn for their first walk of the day,10 min lead free in the park field known as their toilet break, and feeding and medicating Losyn as Beth is away this weekend and Jill reverts to the vampire strain that runs through the Roberts family when Beth isn't there, Up til 4am and asleep til 4 pm are her days. Then it'will be proper walkies and back to cook lunch for cousin A and I. Still I shouldn't complain, being retired means that most of my week is a lazy Sunday. Happy Birthday to Sebastian.

Now that is what I call "Action Retirement"!!!!
Just take care of yourself too!!!

Keeping active in body keeps the mind active and I have 2 young dogs to see through to old age so I need to stay youngish and active.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2013-10-06 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
How old is Losyn now? He was there when I was in 2004!

[identity profile] linda-joyce.livejournal.com 2013-10-06 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
He could be 14, Beth has had him 13 years but he was a young but fully grown dog when she got him from the rescue kennels. The vet put him at between 9 months and a year old then. Considering when she got him you could still see every rib he had and he had put weight on in the time he was at the rescue center he has done well to reach the age he has. His cancer has turned out to be very slow growing and he might just make it to 15 and the medication he is on relieves his arthritis as well as any pain he has from the growth so he is behaving like a puppy again.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2013-10-06 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't realise he was ill! But 15 is a great age for a dog; he's had a wonderful life with Beth and you.

All here is very pleasing news!!!
Lovely plane you have got!!! Oh dear, Gravity, I wish very much I could see it in the cinema when it comes here!I have already read/heard all possible reviews and comments:-)
Oh, dear Sebastian, my favourite little cat - kocourek (male)!!! Mrrrr and Vrrrrrr - happy birthday from me, Ollie and Badík!!!!
And *hugs* to you:-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2013-10-06 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
You should see it in the cinema; you need a big screen for the impact.

Sebastian is a cuddly darling! He's hard to take photos of, being black, but I have some good ones which I hope I'll get time to post soon.

So funny--we are watching Jon Stewart interview Sandra Bullock about Gravity right this minute. We definitely are going to go see it--sounds wonderful.

I'd love to know how she did a lot of the stuff as the film is mainly CGI - but looks incredibly real. You'll love it!

[identity profile] ultrapsychobrat.livejournal.com 2013-10-07 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah, will look forward to pics of darling Sebastian!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2013-10-07 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
I've got some good ones; just need to resize and upload. :-)

I'm so glad Ashley is doing better!
Ooh I was thinking of seeing Gravity in Imax here, so I guess it's worth it then? :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2013-10-07 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah. They had it on at Imax here and a couple of reviewers said they were clutching their seats so they wouldn't fall into the earth. :-) 5 stars all round!

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2013-10-07 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
Nice! Hugs to Ashley and Sebastian...

[identity profile] jecono.livejournal.com 2013-10-07 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds great! I am glad that Ashley is better! I always love reading your entries about the seasons changing - I am looking forward to fall right now! :) The kids and I will go out and collect autumn leaves and chestnuts tomorrow afternoon to decorate the window sills (that we finally have - in Weinheim there were window sills only in our bedroom and the kids' room).

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2013-10-08 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
Lovely custom! The only trees we have here that turn colours in autumn are imported European trees. In areas where there are a lot, it can be stunning. I also love the bare trees in winter so there's more light but most around me are evergreen.

[identity profile] jecono.livejournal.com 2013-10-09 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. I didn't know that! Interesting! At least you don't have to rake the leaves up every autumn... ;) Do you think the imported trees displace the native trees?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2013-10-09 10:03 am (UTC)(link)
In some places they're more common, deliberately, as in Christchurch where they wanted it to look like an English city. However most trees are evergreen; the views out our windows of Auckland don't look much different from summer to winter.

Sounds like I need to make a trip to the Imax in the city to see Gravity!

Saw this article about Commander Chris Hadfield's real life experiences in space in the New York Post (http://nypost.com/2013/10/06/astronauts-worst-fear-floating-off-into-space/?utm_source=SFnewyorkpost&utm_medium=SFnewyorkpost)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2013-10-08 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
You do!

Ooh, thanks for that; Chris Hadfield rocks.

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2013-10-10 08:18 am (UTC)(link)
I went and saw 'Gravity' recently, it's an amazing film!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2013-10-10 10:24 am (UTC)(link)
Wasn't it! Did you see it in 3D? Of course I couldn't because I went with Greg. I heard that people felt as if they were falling into the earth at IMAX. I didn't get that effect in 2D but it was a gripping and stunning film.

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2013-10-11 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
I saw it on a small 3D screen, but didn't notice much 3D effects, actually. :/ The earth did look amazing, though.
