AO3 top website

The Archive of Our Own (AO3) is one of Time's best 50 websites. :-)

I must check out the whole list.

Oh, that is so excellent! And I'm glad they point out the user-friendliness of it as well. I really love that about Ao3. More people need to know about the site anyway as so much of the stuff on the bestseller lists is utter dreck and you can usually find quality fanfic for free instead. I was trying to tell my mum about the site and about fanfic in general and read her some of my stuff (the gen material before the hardcore kinky unfing starts, obvs) and she was just gobsmacked by the whole phenomenon. "But that's better than any real novel I've read in months! Why do you call it just 'fan fiction' when it's beautiful literature?" And then I had to start explaining to her about fanficcer pride and how certain pockets of fandom foster good writing; namely B7 fandom (the way it used to, anyhow)...

That's excellent! Which fandoms are you reading her? Maybe she'll have a lot more respect for what you do. :-)

I forced the 1940 Thief of Bagdad upon her and am trying to convince her of the princess having chosen the wrong guy;) Might be succeeding because I've had to write so much character and plot stuff to get my ship to work. She was surprised at the quality of the stuff (her words!) so I was pretty chuffed, but it is so odd how few people know how good fannish stuff can be in general. Clearly they must be educated:)

Go, you! I'd think she'd be a hard audience to convince, too.

Wow! Surprised and pleased is my reaction too.

And I'm a bit proud of my tag wrangling efforts there too. :-)

Wowza! Maybe I'll stop fibbing about my "hobby" . . . that is one HELL of a shout-out!

I just tell people that I write short stories and publish them online, not that they're based on TV programs (unless I'm talking to a geek, anyway).
