Ashley is 5

We don't know when Ashley was born, but we figured that 1 May is close enough, so yesterday was her fifth birthday. All three shared in the feast of tuna. :-)

Incidentally, there's been a cat very like Ashley hanging around in front of my house in the late evening. Don't know where she comes from (she feels like a girl). Very friendly, but I don't think the residents would like me to let her in.

Does she look well fed? We have a few cats who obviously have homes but visit our cats; Sebastian has a black and white friend (and occasional sparring partner).

She is! We have a routine: at bedtime I pick her up all in a soft furry ball, and we cuddle. At other times she wants to play. :-)

I tell her she's a work of art. :-) She's a very happy little cat who loves the deck and garden, and Sebastian's usually not far away.

Pretty. :-) I hope she is less expensive than our Thug Boy, who has had his second bout of fight-induced eye infection this calendar year.

Ashley's only had one big expense: a white-tailed spider bite on her throat which caused a big abscess, poor little girl. Jasmin's had two eye infections, but I'm not sure what caused them, and an abscess that was probably fight-induced. Sebastian's had a couple of claws in his head but we just remove them and he's fine.

I'm glad I took insurance out on them as kittens.

Wish I'd had that wisdom with the trouble-man, that's for sure.

I learned my lesson with Tessa and Claudia - Tessa in particular as she had two major eye operations.

So beautiful in silver and black! Tabby is the best camouflage for many situations, including weathered wood, concrete, striped grass shadows and others. I used to live with a ginger cat who liked lying invisibly in dry pine needles. Marilyn, my black cat, does a good line in shadowy corners.

Sebastian can also be hard to see when sitting behind plants because he just becomes a shadow.

I know: 5 years old already! At last she's beginning to fill out and probably weighs more than the 3kg she's hovered round for most of her life. I suspect the yogurt she loves (she gets a half a teaspoon as a treat).

She's a very pretty girl! I had to look up her putative birth date (she was 7 months old when I adopted her) and was rather shocked that she's 5 already. Jasmin will hit 5 in August.
