Marmageddon is over! (and other stuff)

Yes, Marmageddon (as they named it) is over! Marmite returned to the supermarket shelved last night and went on sale today - [personal profile] daiseechain, rejoice! Countdown offered a free jar to anyone who spent more than $50 there today, but we had a large almost full jar when production stopped over a year ago and still have some left. I thought I'd let the deprived addicts at it.

I've actually managed to write a trope story but haven't posted it yet because I'm so terribly behind and haven't yet done the Pasifika or the funnel-headed cat one. I'm finding it hard enough just staying up with reading, let alone commenting and actually posting. I've even thought up a couple more; I'll have to get them down and also make a start on the [community profile] unconventionalcourtship one. [worries]

Thank you everyone for the kind comments about the accident. You guys are great! The car has been written off (so sad; it was a great car) but Greg's planning on getting a newer one, probably a Jazz (a Fit in the US). Some people asked about the old guy who was driving the vintage Cadillac. He was still in the ambulance when we left because his blood pressure was up, but he wasn't injured, just shocked (as were we). He rang Greg up this week and was terribly apologetic. The Caddy was a 1979 model he had 'classic car insurance' for meaning that it was only meant to be driven occasionally and he usually only took it out on weekends and to car shows. He almost didn't last Saturday because of the rain; I wish he'd decided not to. As I had also suspected, it was a left-hand drive car which would have made it even harder in those conditions when it fish-tailed (since we drive on the left here). Greg was very kind and said to him not to worry about it, things sometimes just go wrong. Ah well, if it hadn't been us he'd hit with that solid car, it might have been worse for someone else, who knows.

Oh gosh, I didn't see this about the accident - so glad everyone seems to be okay.

Jars of Marmite do seem to last almost forever. I have one in my larder that must be well over a year old and is still half-full. I don't have Marmite very often, and of course you only need a small amount because the taste is so strong. The contents of the jar still seem perfectly edible.

Greg's planning on getting a newer one, probably a Jazz (a Fit in the US)

So people in the US, when talking about buying a new car, might say "I'm going to have a Fit"!

Ha, one of my friends did! She's pleased too as it seems bigger on the inside.

Jazz is a much better name, though we call Jasmin that sometimes. I hope she and the car won't get confused by that.

Yes, I only have a shmear of the axle grease, but now I can have it more often!

I suppose she's sure that it's really a Fit and not a TARDIS? I suppose that even if it was a TARDIS with a working chameleon circuit it would be a hard mistake to make. :)

:-) You can ask her yourself just below! It's Astro. :-)

I do have the "my other car is a TARDIS" license plate holder on it, but, of course, that might be just to throw people off the trail. After all, if people knew I had a TARDIS, everybody would be wanting rides in it. :)

I dunno, "Jazz" is a little too... peppy for me me. Plus, I'm not much of a jazz fan, and I'd feel weirdly like it was misrepresenting my musical tastes, somehow, if mine were called that. "Fit" has grown on me as a name, though. It's descriptive. I mean, the car does fit a lot of stuff. :)

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2013-03-20 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, a Fit! Or a Jazz, whatever. We can be car twins! I'm very happy with mine. Despite my general dislike of driving, I actually keep trying to find excuses to get behind the wheel now. :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2013-03-20 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll pass that on! When I mentioned your car to Greg at the time, he said he liked them. He and I were car twins with our matched silver space-ship-coloured Integras but I think he's going for a blue Jazz he saw and liked. TARDIS colour! What colour is yours?

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2013-03-20 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Mine is, in fact, silver space-ship-colored. That being kind of my favorite car color, but if the dealer had had it available in blue, I would have been sorely tempted. Especially as the manufacturer's website referred to that particular color as "vortex blue!". :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2013-03-21 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Really? I'll have to see what the two blues are called here. Very cool!

Our 2006 Jazz is "vivid blue", and it seems to be a very common shade of blue here for cars of that type. Or maybe I'm just noticing it more because it's significant to me :) I think the newer models come in different colours, though.

Car triplets, even! :D

Indeed! And I'm still grateful to you for recommending it. :)

Though I really don“t know this Jazz car, I am very glad you will have a new one and that this accident had no victims !apart of your poor car, that is).
Greg is definitely a very nice and king person.
Haha, Marmite. No, no Marmite here, never has been. I know it only thanks to my trips to the UK and staying with families. I can eat it on a toast. That is all.:-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2013-03-20 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
The insurance company sent us a photo of the poor car but I was too sad to look at it. Oh well, at least we'll have a newer one though Greg will have to pay the extra over what we get for the old one.

It's great on toast with fresh sliced tomatoes, and I like it in sandwiches, just a thin shmear, with cheese, tomato, and lettuce. It adds bite--also to stews!
