UK trip pics!

Pictures from my UK trip are now up, on Fotobilder.

I put them on LJ's Fotobilder (do they know German?) for which I'm a beta tester; it will be available for everyone in a few months. They'll need to be faster though. I chose them because they have some cool features like being able to put your photos in any order, and because I'll be able to put my 'City at the Edge of the World' screencaps there (very soon); some sites would object.

Once you click on a thumbnail, use the next and previous buttons for a slideshow, or just click on those you fancy (it was a very geeky tour, but there are a few scenic shots). 'Up' takes you up a level.

Here's the structure. You can go to the first link and explore, or use these.

Main gallery page

My Cats (not UK, but hey!)
Star One (Blake's 7 con, and the only pics of me you'll see here)
UK Holiday This has small sub-galleries:
Bletchley Park (Site of WW2 code-breaking)
Newport Area (Roman ruins, [livejournal.com profile] linda_joyce, a transporter)
Bristol and Bath (bridges, [livejournal.com profile] spacefall, and baths)
Portmadog and Portmerion (steam trains and Prisoner locations)
Langollen (Daleks, canals, scenery!)
The North (a castle, [livejournal.com profile] kalypso_v, more canals and bridges, and some smut)
York (pretty city, worrying food, maltreated burglars)
Duxford War Museum (old planes, yay)
If Fotobilder is slow, try again later.

Oh, and the icon was made from one of [livejournal.com profile] kerr_avon's lovely photo-manips, with her permission.

Yay!:):):) Am enjoying the holiday snaps muchly:).

Oh, good! Bit geeky though.

[identity profile] snowgrouse.livejournal.com 2004-11-17 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, so that's why I am enjoying them so much:D.

Yay for geekiness! Though I'm sure not everyone's as keen on bridges and 19C civil engineering as I am.

They should be, though. :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2004-11-17 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, what's not to like?

[identity profile] linda-joyce.livejournal.com 2004-11-18 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Lovely photos, even of me. One minor correction for the caps. Chapel of Ease was built as estate workers cottages for the big house (Abercarn House) which was down by the river, they only became miners cottages 50 years or so after they were built. Did I tell you that mine was the village pub when the village was first built?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2004-11-18 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
You did, yes! I couldn't put HTML in the comments or I'd have added a link to your page. I'll correct the text though, thanks!

I love "hacker"
Whenever I take pictures of my feline pals they end up looking shocked and scared!

Just looked through these. Very cool! And they helped me pass part of what is shaping up to be yet another deeply boring night shift...

And I already knew this, of course, but, wow, you have beautiful cats. :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2004-11-18 12:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I can waste a lot of time looking at the real ones myself!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2004-11-18 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)
They're used to it now, though Tessa used to run from the camera as a kitten.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2004-11-18 12:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Just a thought--do you use a flash on them? This does not make for a good cat picture; they look very 'caught in the headlights', and if they're very shiny, like Tessa, it reflects oddly from their faces.

Yay, great pics, thanks for sharing.

Nice to be reminded of what you look like, too!

(I *so* want to go back to NZ, I can't tell you how much)

Really? I should go further afield myself; the Bay of Islands is gorgeous and the whole northern half of the North Island is lovely, but I should take another trip down south where it gets really spectacular. I haven't been there for years.

Greg sounds a man after my own heart as well, with liking trains. When you were at the NRM did you look round the warehouse section beyond the locomotives? Its my favourite section full of things like Brunel's rock collection from the route of the main line to Bristol. Last time I was there my very favourite piece had been removed. Its the remains of the loco they crashed into a nuclear transportation flask to prove how strong they are, that's experimental engineering at its best.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2004-11-18 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[shudder] We only had one full day in York so I didn't go to the NRM. We split up and Greg went there while I went to the Castle Museum. It's a pity as we'd both have enjoyed both. Greg said he could spend a week at the NRM. He fell for Wales too and is already talking of going back one day, yay! I went into the NRM shop in town though.

Hee. There was an American guy at our B&B who talked about nothing but trains all through breakfast; he was doing a tour of the UK just looking at them, never mind anything else. Greg said that was too much, even for him. We have eclectic tastes, us. Canals, bridges, aqueducts, code-breaking, 19C feats of engineering ... oh, no, we're not nerds like him! ;-)

Had you caught up with the fact that Fred Dibner has died? I assume you're familiar with his programmes/

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2004-11-21 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
No, we're not. I googled him and I think there's a Fred Dibnah who did some docos.
