Sebastian's big adventure

I seem to have got out of the habit of posting. I certainly avoided it last week when Sebastian went missing for two days because I couldn't handle talking about it, but he came back on Wednesday night. He was a nervous and hungry so I suspect he was locked in somewhere and that Jasmin knew where he was because she kept meowing at us. She didn't go so far as to lead us to him Lassie-like though.

So we have now decided to lock them in at night when we go to bed; they should be able to handle that and learn that they can't get out if we're asleep. We used to round Tessa and Claudia up in the evening when they were younger but we now have a smart cat door that will allow them out at daybreak if we sleep in in the weekend.

To reward those who read this far, have some links.

From xkcd: What If: answering your hypothetical questions with physics (and maths) every Tuesday. There are only two questions there so far; get in at the beginning! LJ's feed is [livejournal.com profile] whatifxkcd and DW's is [syndicated profile] what_if_feed.

This cat feels that today's the day.

{hugs} I'm glad Sebastian made it back okay.

I'm so sorry you had all that worry about Sebastian - you may remember Tabitha disappeared for three days in 2009, and we think she was shut in too. I did lock the cat-flap at night for a while, but one side-effect of the thyroid treatment is that she seems to go out a lot less at any time of day, and for shorter trips - or maybe it's just old age - so now I leave it alone again. I hope your youngsters will settle down with the new arrangement.

I'm so glad Sebastian found his way back. It's scary losing a cat -- Cliff used to go missing for a day or two at a time quite frequently and I was in a panic every time until he turned up with cobwebs around his whiskers.

awww, poor baby - but I'm so glad he's back where he belongs :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2012-07-16 09:47 am (UTC)(link)
He got lots of cuddles; mind you, he always does. He's a very snuggly cat. I think he was very pleased to be back too.

I'm glad he's back, what a relief! I've had that happen too.

I always lock mine up at night. Once or twice a year (usually the first warm days) they refuse to come in before I go to bed, but normally everything closes up at a certain point. I don't care what they think, it makes me feel better ;)

Today's the day is hilarious!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2012-07-16 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I stopped bothering with Claudia and Tessa because they stayed inside at night anyway when they were older, and the girls have been fine. Sebastian's been in a couple of fights, presumably at night, so I'd been considering it anyway; this gave me a very good reason.

I feel better too. :-)

Oh, how good that Sebastian made it back!!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2012-07-16 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I was so relieved I picked him up and cuddled him (which he's usually not keen on) and he touched my face gently with soft paws. I think he was very happy too.

Oh, poor Sebastian! I'm glad he's OK.

And the "Today's the day" cat made me laugh. :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2012-07-16 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I was so worried I'd lost him. It happened a couple of times with Tessa too.

My lot don't bother much with the laser now but they'll play with Da Bird till they drop down panting and they'll still want more. :-P

Hugs to you and I'm very glad your Sebastian is safe and home with you.
Thanks for the links! :o)

Did you like the red dot one? :-)

[identity profile] luinielle.livejournal.com 2012-07-19 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
I did very much like the red dot one. :o) The kits haven't played with a laser but they love to chase the flashlight (torch).

I'm glad he came back safely, poor thing

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2012-07-16 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I think he was glad too. He's been extra-cuddly (and that's saying something).

[identity profile] vjezkova.livejournal.com 2012-07-16 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, poor "kocourek"and poor you,you must have been frantic, to lose such a darling would have been horrible.
Now he is back, wonderful, I hope he was taught a lesson.
Thanks o

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2012-07-16 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Kocourek" is "little cat"? :-) I was almost scared to hope. I love all of them but he's especially bonded to me and snuggles up to me in bed. Jasmin does too, but not for hours like he does; she's much flightier.

I hope he's learned to stay away from wherever he was.

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2012-07-16 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Eeep. I'm not surprised you avoided posting. I know how, when mine have disappeared, it's impossible to concentrate on anything else, or really to even talk about anything else. I'm glad he came back. *hugs* to you and to Sebastian...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2012-07-16 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't even want to talk about it unless I lost it. Sebastian got heaps of extra hugs when he turned up, and that's saying something because he's the cuddliest of the three, a total smoocher. :-)

How's your Muffin? From the three black cats we've known (my and Greg's sister had one each) we think they're a breed apart: faithful, loving, and friendly.

Aw, I'm very glad you've got him back! It's awful when a pet goes missing.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2012-07-16 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It is! I called all around the neighbourhood and felt so helpless. I'm extra-happy to see him each day when I go home. :-)

That's an adorable kitten in your icon.

Aw. And this post is full of lovely cat/kitten icons! It's quite something. :-)

(This one was part of a lovely batch by [livejournal.com profile] peculiargroove. It was hard to choose.)

I'm glad he came back safe and well.Monkey did that this summer too. He was gone all weekend and then turned up at midnight all covered in cobwebs. We thought he must have got shut in somewhere too. He's shown no inclination at all to repeat the experience.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2012-07-17 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
I'm certainly hoping Sebastian will stay away from wherever it is.

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2012-07-17 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry that Sebastian went missing, it's good that he's back.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2012-07-17 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
The perfect icon!

[identity profile] nautile26.livejournal.com 2012-07-17 10:21 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, poor Sebastian, and poor you. You must have been frantic, so yay for happy reunions. (I do love that icon.)

And the 787.... beautiful. :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2012-07-17 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks; it's from one of my drawings last year (not that I have time to do art month this time).

I'm glad someone watched! Isn't it elegant!

[identity profile] nautile26.livejournal.com 2012-07-17 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
It was a stunning piece of video; you don't expect to see a passenger plane taking off so steeply and banking like that. Probably wouldn't enjoy it as a passenger, though. :P

Funny thing too, I could hear the birds chirping in the background.

Glad Sebastian is home ok!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2012-07-17 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm soooo glad to have him back, and ready to snuggle up whenever I wake up in the night. He's a very smoochy cat. :-)
