Catch up with stuff
I don't think I've posted for weeks, but hey, I haven't had much to say.
We have a relative staying with us for what was meant to be a few days till she found a flat, but she's very picky and is still here almost two months later. She's not that much trouble, being a fellow introvert, but it means I have to cook a decent meal each night, no heating up samosas or having soup and toast more than once a week, and I have to do more housework than usual. Which is probably a good thing. But damn, I miss being able to come home and just blob out.
I haven't been much good at writing for picowrimo either and I've just realised that next month is art month and I'm not sure I'm going to be able to manage it what with a full-time job and a boarder.
I've also been meaning to post photos but I have to find somewhere other than LJ's crapbook to host them. Maybe Photobucket for photos and Flickr for art?
At least we're past the shortest day, yay, but just in the last week we've had one of the frighteningly intense tropical rainstorms we get here with flash flooding, two days of the worst fog in 20 years, and an earthquake centred in Taranaki which we didn't feel here, but Wellington certainly did (as a colleague down there on the 21st floor in his hotel discovered - his very first).
And oh joy, the single lift at work is out once again (this is the third time in the last month) meaning we have to walk up the stairs to the 4th floor (5th for those who count sensible from the ground). And that's after slogging up the hill from where I park in the first place.
I have some links. I will put those in another post.

The free version has got some ads, but it's not nearly as ad heavy or visually cluttered as Photobucket (which is just a mess, as far as I'm concerned, and hurts my eyes. I admit: I just won't click a thumbnail for a closer look if I know it leads to Photobucket).

I use picasa for posting photos here on DW.

the worst fog in 20 years
In terms of visibility? *curious*

In terms of thickness and duration; it's usually gone not long after sunrise. When it does go though, we get really nice clear days, and we've had three of them this weekend and today. [hopes for more]

I hope that the lift soon gets fixed - permanently this time.
Are you sure that the relative really intends to find a flat and isn't banking on staying with you long term?

They said that the lift outage this week has a completely different cause from the last big outage; they have to replace a gearbox that makes the lift shudder, something I did feel on one trip. [rolls eyes] Why they didn't catch that last time I don't know.
I don't think so; she needs a place far closer to her work than here (Auckland being one of the biggest cities by area on the planet) and people her own age to do things with. Besides, does she really want to eat my cooking for months? ;-)

It's nice to hear from you, though, anyway.

I feel a bit guilty about the not-writing things for pico but I'm also a bit stuck with what to do with some of the characters and I do tend to write linearly.
Thank you! :-) And also thanks for stepping in with b7friday!

And no problems about

I've been using Picasa for picture hosting. It seems to work pretty well.

What are Picasa's online album features like? I want to be able to direct people to say artwork or UK holiday photos.

I don't know how you're managing to live with a long term visitor, I feel relieved when visitors go after a long week-end.
Linda Joyce and I both use Photobucket for pictures.

Can you order pictures in Photobucket? I like mine to be chronological within album.

Ehem - any thought of a long-term-visiting relative makes me crouch...sorry, this is my bad experince...
The main thing is - you are all right. I can see you also have weather problems...stay safe, you and yours!

The last three days have been stunning: those rare (for us) clear, sunny, still, crisp, cloudless winter days. I hope we get more. I should be outside in this one, not at the office.

Agreed: two meals this week will be soup and toast, and fish and chips. :-)

Photobucket does have tagging, album creation and sub-albums. It's easy to load stuff in, but not as easy to keep it organized over time.
LJ finally migrated me, and the shrieks of agony were intense. I damn near gave up. (I lost five years of work there -- over 1500 images that used to be organized and cross-tagged.)

Can you order within albums in Photobucket? I'm also considering Picasa but they don't say much about their features. I suppose I'd have to join both and check them out to see which I like best. I already have Flickr for art and craft stuff but I don't really like how it works.
I need to experiment and I haven't really had the time or inclination.

I did cry.
I don't think you can set a custom order in Photobucket, the way you could in the old Scrapbook. I gather from one of your other commenters that there are some options for ordering, but not at the same level.
I've been too crushed to explore other options, although I intend to do so. Are you up for sharing information as we stagger along?
