Fannish pets

Awww, two of the Itty-Bitty-Kitty Committee kittens have been adopted by Vorkosigan fans: they named them Miles and Cordelia. :-D

Which reminds me of two people I met at Greg's work end-of-year dinner. They have a dog called Ziva and were delighted that I recognised the name and told me that they were exercising her in the park when someone with a dog called Abby heard them calling her and came up to introduce themselves.

And then there were Bodie and Doyle, the terriers I met at the vet's a while back.

I got some interesting comments when I mentioned that one of the small furries was a Vila and one was a Horatio (both Hornblower and CSI fans made comments about him!) and Martouf and Jolinar laptops get a knowing nod on occasion. The funniest response was a student who introduced his computer as High Guard. A asked if he was an Andromeda fan and he went red and explained he was a Lexa Doig follower.

Of course, being 'on the other side' of the relationship with her husband (and having friends who are bigger Stargate fans than I am) I was able to fill him in on how she actually met said husband when he was guesting on her show.

Awww. I love happy kitty stories. I've been known to name my cats after characters in books (right now I have Max and Moritz), but I think my husband might cavil at Napoleon and Illya ;)

Wonderful! I love whan people meet thanks to the pets and I love to hear that the small ones will be safe and well.
Ah, Živa, great name:-)
*Hugs* to you and the kits!

Is Živa a Czech name too? It's Hebrew for brilliance, or light of God.

All of the IBKC kittens get adopted. They are a couple who foster litters of kittens and have a cat who mothers them, and they have such a huge following with their wonderful photos of the kittens, they always find good homes for them. We often hear about the grown cats and how happy they are.

Živa in Czech means life...and peace, žizň. Ask Greg or you might know that old Slavonic language created by Konstantin and Metoděj. The word and its meaning goes back there (7th century).
We say "život" (life) or adjective "živá" (alive).
We definitely have common roots:-)

So Živa for you is like Zoe for us: that's Greek for life; I have a niece called Zoe. One of the guys at work has a new baby called Kaia which is the Hebrew version for life. :-)

So cute! I backtracked to the Itty-Bitty-Kitty Committee's Flickr Collection for future kitty AWWW when I want some virtual cuddles.

I follow their feed on LJ. She takes amazing kitten photos, and socialises the kittens so well they're ready for good homes when they're old enough.

Anyone naming a kitten Miles is asking for trouble!

Our two fannish kitties are K'Zin (Larry Niven) and Monkey (whose nature is irrepressible!

Does K'zin greet you with a scream and a leap? (Well, meow anyway.)

As a kitten, and sometimes even now, it's his favourite mode of "attack".
