What I can see from my window

One of the cool things about work is having a desk right by a window, something I haven't had in most offices. This is what I can see.

Left-hand side of view. You can see the Big Blue Thing (motorway viaduct building-and-demolishing crane) left of centre, and to the left of that is Mt Hobson behind the tree on the skyline.

Right-hand side of view. You can see where they overlap by the bright green building in the first photo showinjg its edge in the second. The hill in this one is Mt Eden which has a very good volcanic crater and wonderful views right across the city and indeed whole country, since we're on a fairly narrow isthmus.

I plan to put three pot plants on the window sill to hide the ugly grey building at the bottom. I have the pots and plants but since the office is closing for two weeks on the 23rd, I'll let them settle down over the break and take them in later.

And yay, my ThinkGeek package arrived at work this week. I was worried it wouldn't get here before the office closed.

You get lovely views from your desk. I think work is more enjoyable if you have a great outlook :)

That's a really nice view to have at work! It looks like such a pleasant city, with so much greenery - not to mention the old volcanoes! :-)

Very nice view. I used to work, many a year ago now, on Lambton Quay, and could see the harbour and the hills. It helps to have something nice to look at.

Thanks for sharing! They're pretty.

Nice pictures. :)

Yes, definitely try and hide the grey building. ::nods::

Three plants in a row will do it. :-)

[identity profile] ultrapsychobrat.livejournal.com 2011-12-11 09:43 am (UTC)(link)
Nice view! Plants will be nice.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-12-12 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! I'll pot them over the break (I have a lovely plant that continually has offshoots.)

Those are gorgeous views! :-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-12-12 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
They are! The railway line is right below but I can't see or hear it.

Not many people can see two volcanoes from their window! I think the nearest volcanoes to me would be in either Iceland or Italy.

Sometimes the 70-odd or so here worry me a bit.

Yes, it is so nice to have a window. Your view is much nicer than mine, though: I just see buildings and the trees in the street.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-12-12 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Seeing trees is good though!

True.
Perhaps I will photograph my view at some point.

[identity profile] vjezkova.livejournal.com 2011-12-11 10:28 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you for your view! Ah, I imagined volcanoes like those steep hills:-)I agree that is is not common to have TWO volcanoes in a city. I like to greenery in your city, it looks very clean and I think that your house in in a good place.
What kind of plants are you going to place there? (I am prepared to envy!:-))

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-12-12 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Ahaha, we actually have more than 70 volcanoes here!

I have a nice view from home two, also of houses and trees and volcanoes, but different ones. :-)

[identity profile] vjezkova.livejournal.com 2011-12-12 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
OMG, 70 volcanoes!!!
Well, true, NZ is like that...but still...:-):-)

Lovely view! I wouldn't get any work done...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-12-12 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
It's nice to rest my eyes with, looking into the green and blue (or grey) distance.

[identity profile] blencathra.livejournal.com 2011-12-11 10:42 am (UTC)(link)
Lovely view! I'm also admiring your blue sky. Here it's grey and rainy. :(

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-12-12 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
It is here today too!

[identity profile] communicator.livejournal.com 2011-12-11 11:11 am (UTC)(link)
Quite breathtaking. What a beautiful sky.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-12-12 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
It was! It's uniformly grey today.

[identity profile] stevie-carroll.livejournal.com 2011-12-11 11:40 am (UTC)(link)
That's a great view you've got there.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-12-12 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
It's nicer out the other side with the Domain (central park) but I'm happy.

[identity profile] reapermum.livejournal.com 2011-12-11 11:54 am (UTC)(link)
Lovely view, and daylight is so much better for you than artificial.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-12-12 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Most emphatically yes, having worked in places with no windows at all.

[identity profile] matildabj.livejournal.com 2011-12-11 12:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Nice to have a view. Bit distracting though. :)

Your view makes me miss Seattle. Sigh. At least I do have a window now myself, although the view is of the building across the street, and planters with no plants. When I was in Seattle, I had a cubicle (windows were reserved for the guys).

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-12-12 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Any window is better than none (unless it's straight onto a wall). The last contract I had was in a horrible cramped room lacking in any glass. It was so oppressive.

Was that sexism or just by job description. :-(
lolmac: (Lizard)

[personal profile] lolmac 2011-12-12 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
It was pure sexism -- although the individuals involved would have denied it with their last breaths.

Actually, I quite like my view; a larger vista would have much more glare in the summer. I still have terrible troubles with the climate, and the deep shade of my limited view is a very good match for my needs.

As it is, I can see the weather, my boss is throwing a fit at the building admin about the absence of plants in the planters (and he throws marvelous fits) and there's a wall to one side that has geckos running up and down it. I adore the geckos.

I do miss the mountains, though.

Golly, all you have to do when things get stressful at work is turn your head, and there's serenity...Lovely!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-12-12 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
It is!

But you'll have Paris soon, and even the buildings are beautiful there.

[identity profile] zoefruitcake.livejournal.com 2011-12-12 11:09 am (UTC)(link)
lovely view :0)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-12-12 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Not today it isn't: rain, rain, rain. I can see that the pohutukawa trees are blooming though which is one of the signs of approaching summeriness. :-)

[identity profile] zoefruitcake.livejournal.com 2011-12-12 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
at least there is a sign :0)
