Day 19 - Kakabeak

Another fast glass-coaster flower. I was going to do kowhai (see icon from an early naarmamo) but the yellow wouldn't contrast well with the gold outlines so I did kakabeak which is similar in shape. In fact it's from the same family and is called kakabeak because it looks like the beak of the kaka parrot.

Kakabeak

My NaArMaMo 2011 Gallery is here; go up a level for the others.

No, no, I don't draw, I wish I could. I can barely manage stick men ;)

I'm thinking of setting up a zazzle shop. I'd like to maybe sell to a greeting card company but I have no idea how to go about it.

Your plants have the best names! Another pretty coaster, the variegated background looks really good here too.

Lovely one again! This one's extra interesting to me because of my kaka beak drawing from several NaArMaMos ago -- they're beautiful flowers and you get to know a plant when you draw it!

I remembered someone had done one but not who it was. So it was you! :-D

YAY!!! Kakabeak!!! We used to have one of these outside our front door at my flat in Christchurch, sadly it died after the covering of snow we had one year. They are so beautiful, and you have captured it so well!! It looks great with the gold outline. I love how you've done the cup things which hold the flowers - I had real trouble drawing them when I did kowhai the other day!

That gold-outlined style I stumbled on when experimenting (http://vilakins.livejournal.com/601138.html) is very forgiving as you don't have to be at all accurate. The cups are really a bit slap-dash in outline; I spent more time playing with the colour. I thought your outlines were much better and more meticulously done. :-)
