Day 18 - Sebastian on green

It's Sebastian again. He's easy to draw because he's just black with a few grey highlights. I gave him a stylised green background with touches of gold (care of Artrage). I'm not sure if it's just him or all black cats, but he carries his tail curved over his back, like the Rinconada cat I draw a couple of years ago. :-)

My NaArMaMo 2011 Gallery is here; go up a level for the others.

As a person owned by two black cat sisters I LOVE this :)

That's Inka, this one is India. Their tails curl but in all kinds of directions :) (Sorry for all the edits, just got up, brain not and fingers not working!)

I can tell them apart but most people can't. Inka is smaller and their personalities are very different with Inka being sweet, playful and affectionate and India is a bit of a temperamental queen ;)

Very cute. Such a difficult posture to draw too (well, from my perspective as a non-artist). I love the way she's stepping out, and the use of shadow.

It does seem to be a black cat thing with the tail position, in the same way that so many of them have green eyes and a tuft of white under their chin. Clearly there was one very active and, uh, genetically successful cat somewhere in the black cat lineage.

P.S. You caused me to buy a book on drawing cats because I keep seeing your cat pictures and feebly hoping I might attempt the same. I know you can't learn drawing from books, but it's more a sort of source book of cat poses.

Sorry, I think I missed the daisy but thank you for making it for me. I'll go back now and look through. I'm a bit hit and miss at the moment with LJ & DW due to RL stuffs.

The book I particularly like at the moment is the one on how to paint dragons - lots of useful advice on colouring and using watercolours but the artist starts each dragon by saying "First you pencil in your dragon" and proceeds to whip up something that looks like it was done by Da Vinci, because of course if you're buying a book on drawing you can already do that sort of work :-D

I like that. He's obviously spotted something to one side and is going to investigate.

One of the many toys on our (not green) floor!

This is really beautiful. Love the way you're caught the sense of motion.

He looks wonderful on green--I like the dark green shadow and the touches of gold.

My black cat, Moritz, usually carries his tail straight up, he must curve it like that sometimes, but not that often. He bounces when he walks :)

The green floor was too plain so I fiddled till I got the gold flecks and I liked that.

Jasmin bounces! She trots along, bouncing with each step: so cute! Sebastian doesn't, but his tail tip is about midway along his back and that seemed very quirky till I saw other black cats like that.

Lovely Sebastian investigating! He is so curious! I love how nicely you painted his paws, really like the cats walk! The green background suits him, oh yes!

Thank you! I was going to do a gold background but I did one yesterday, and I like how the rich green turned out.

I love that one of Tygr!

I really like this one.

Gorgeous! That's an excellent pose for him. My black cat (you'll see photos of her eventually) has a fluffy flag-like tail and waves it above and behind her, never over her back. Maybe it's only black short-haired cats!

Ashley's tail goes straight up. It's tabby in front but from the rear it's white and fluffy. We call her the flag-tailed tabby cat. :-D

The pose, the colours, this is just perfect!! I grew up with a black cat, they are awesome :)

He's a darling, very cuddly and affectionate and sweet. My sister had a little black female for years and adored her. I love their glossy blackness.
