Brrrrr!

I didn't want to go out today because the weather was too weathery. It was bad enough venturing to the recycle bin, and the tap water is so cold it hurts my hands. Apparently it's snowing in the hills down to 200 metres. They said that if the wind had been different it might even have snowed at sea level here. Huh? It's never snowed here. There may be sleet tomorrow (and I park a few blocks from work). Sleet?

My feet are starting to hurt. I should have socks or the heater on.

But that's still no excuse for the cat (Jasmin, I think) who peed in the spare handbasin last night and in the bath today. I am not impressed. They have fur, dammit.

Oh my!

It has been a cold winter here too, but it hasn't gotten that cold.
I have to thank you again for pointing me towards NZ Nature Co a few years ago; I have been wearing the Ugh boots I bought from them, my possum-wool fingerless gloves, and a more recent purchase, a possum-wool poncho.

but you could crochet some fingerless gloves!

Indeed, I am considering it.

I'm also pondering whether to buy some possum-wool wool. I've found two places that sell it online.
But first, I need to use up the 40+ balls of fluffy yarn I have!

Warm hugs! "I'm a high-bred lady," Jasmin says. "It's too cold out there for my delicate lady parts."

She's just a spoilt, lazy little girl! OK, her fur's shorter and finer than the other two but she doesn't have to dress to go out like we do, and she spends enough time cavorting around out there in the garden and on the roof for me to lose any sympathy for her. ;-) And i'd just cleaned the bathrooms. :-(

[identity profile] linda-joyce.livejournal.com 2011-08-14 11:37 am (UTC)(link)
I've lived with that sort of winter weather all my life but that doesn't make it any easier to live with. I know what you are going through and you have my sympathies.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
Ah but you lot have double-glazing and central heating! Our houses aren't built for this. :-(

[identity profile] linda-joyce.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
I've only had both since 1997, before that it was gas fires and single glazing, and before that it was coal fires and badly fitting doors and windows, I do understand.

At least she chose somewhere easy to clean. Now, if you could only train her to use the loo...

I hope it warms up for you soon.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
Knowing her she'd fall in!

I'm sure it will. It's been a fairly mild winter (temps anyway) apart from this Antarctic blast.

Sending you warm thoughts and hugs. I hope you warm up soon.

I don't mind the cold as much as the 100kph winds and the rain and hail. I looked a bit like your icon today! :-)

It's 45.9/114.5F according to my in/out thermometer... it may be a bit wonky, but it's likely to be close to the truth. Wish I could ship some of my heat over to you!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
45! That's like Israel was, and I liked it too (being a dry heat). OK, it never gets that hot here.

I hate it when it's over 40 C, but I agree that dry heat is better than humid heat.
Perhaps you should move to Melbourne... 8-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-08-19 08:14 am (UTC)(link)
Oh believe me, I would love to!

[identity profile] quabazaa.livejournal.com 2011-08-14 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Brrrrr!!! I am so glad it's not that cold here in Aus right now! I have had ENOUGH of snow to last a lifetime (where I lived in Switzerland we had it for around 3 months of the year). I just can't believe the pics I'm seeing of NZ, it has never snowed in Welly like it's doing now, as far as I know! Keep warm <3

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
There was huge excitement today at a little sleet!

I used to live in Germany and loved the snow, but of course their houses are built for it. 100kph winds and rain and hail aren't anywhere near as much fun...

[identity profile] jthijsen.livejournal.com 2011-08-14 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Around here it's supposed to be the middle of summer, but it's been raining for most of the day and my feet are getting cold, too. Expectations are for only slightly warmer but generally just as rainy weather for the rest of the week. I want a real summer, dang it!

To add to the fun, the drain in my back yard is starting to get somewhat clogged and runs over every single time it rains. And talking about cat pee: one of my cats always pees in front of the litterbox instead of in it. Pee in the sink would actually make me quite happy, what with that being a lot easier for me.

I live in Central Europe and we have the same weather ... let me share your frustration!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
Sebastian often missed too. I am so glad he learned to use the cat door and go outside.

We missed a whole summer one year. Damn, but it was depressing so I know how you feel.

[identity profile] p-m-cryan.livejournal.com 2011-08-14 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I hate sleet. Please be careful.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
There was some today to people's excitement but nothing even slightly lasting on the ground.

[identity profile] vjezkova.livejournal.com 2011-08-14 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
This must be hard for you! Too cold for NZ. And sleet? This is crazy. I hope it will not happen. Sleet is a very tricky thing, brrrr.
That incident...have my sympathy...however the circumstances might have caused it...well, this happens even in the aristoratic families. Do you think that Jasmin understands her sin?
Stay warm and safe!!!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
this happens even in the aristoratic families

Haha, I'm glad we're lower types then! I don't think she does because we've never caught her at it and we never tell a cat off unless it's actually doing a wrong thing.

Real winter weather, ugh! Cats are such prima donnas.

It's warm here but pouring rain, and mine are sitting in front of the door they usually use looking miserable; they want to be outside but they hate getting wet :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
Ours do too - and it's wet in any season here! They come in looking as if they think we cause rain (and after all we do go in a rain-box to their puzzlement).

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2011-08-14 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I bet it's her feet that got too cold to go outside. Maybe for really inclement days you could set aside an emergency litter box near the door they use to go out?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
Ha! I've done that and they don't use it. I don't think the ground's that cold for a quick run outside, and she's happy enough to play out there.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2011-08-16 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
If a cat's not accustomed to using a litter box, sometimes you need to 'salt the mine' by putting in a bit of wiped up pee on a paper towel, so they get the idea.

[identity profile] samantha-vimes.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
Sadly, I am always grateful that so many cats, when needing a toilet indoors, think of the bathtub. It's so easy to rinse, and they are clever enough to make a connection between us running water through the human-litter-box and use similar plumbing linked places.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
This is true; I wouldn't want it on the floor. I don't know why she doesn't go out though when she's happy to play out there when it suits her and then come in with damp fur.
