Day 11 - Rainbow umbrella

I told [livejournal.com profile] pinkdormouse I'd draw my rainbow umbrella, and here it is.

Rainbow umbrella

It has 16 panels, each a different colour. I don't know why the mauve one is so pale; it doesn't seem to fit. However it's still a thing of beauty and has a lovely wooden shaft and curved handle and is very light to use. I don't take it anywhere I'd possible leave it or get it stolen; I mostly use the two large gust-busters in my car for that (and in fact I left the green one at work today; sigh).

Besides this one, I also have a light blue one with a map of the world, and one I use for the sun in summer that looks like banana leaves.

Look, umbrellas are a necessity in Auckland so I might as well have some beautiful ones!

Done in Artrage then a rain effect added to the background in GIMP.

As LJ-hosted pictures aren't always showing up properly (just as a strip or very pixellated), I also have it on Flickr.

My NaArMaMo 2011 Gallery is here; go up a level for the others.

Lovely! I have an umbrella like that too. I do use it, because it would be a pity not to, but I understand your reluctance to risk it being lost.

Rainbow colours, wooden handle; it sounds like it's the same.

I wouldn't take it to an office where someone might nick it

Oh, that's awful.
(self is grateful again for place-of-work)

Nice chance to play with colors! You always have such strong, simple lines, I like that.

Oh, that is lovely. I use an umbrella here about twice a year, but I have a lot of them--I usually have to buy one each year, because I inevitably get caught without one. But none are so pretty as this.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-08-12 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
Then I envy you! I never leave home without at least a fold-up one in my bag. More people are using them in summer too with the lack of ozone layer giving us stronger sunlight than Africa.

Yes, I'd look after one as lovely as that too...

Especially when I've lost a couple (don't even know how or where) and had a few destroyed in winds or storms. Gust-busters are the way to go for bad weather.

Lovely cheerful colours for dreary days.

I'm sure you can see the bends in the ribs where the spokes support them underneath, but I can't see how you've done that.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-08-12 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
The lines are straight (so to speak) curves; maybe the highlights give that impression.

Simple but gorgeous. I really like the damp around the edges, too.

Thank you! It's bright and beautiful on our grey wet days.

Wonderful exercise in a real life item as a colour wheel.

Really like the rain and the wet and dry shading on the umbrella.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-08-12 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I had several goes at adding rain manually but had to settle for a GIMP pattern.

Another one that would be great on notecards!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-08-12 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I might turn some of this year's simpler stuff into icons.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-08-12 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
And drawn for you! It was fun to do too.

I love it!

I have two brollys (or should that be brollies? Hmmm) one has Charles Rennie Mcintosh style roses on it and is about 14 years old. That one lives in my car, and replaced a blue and green tartan one. The other one is an Orla Kiely one with pears on it that my stepfather gave me

[counts] I have three gust-busters (green, mauve, red & black), a banana leaf one, the rainbow one, the map of the world one, the green collapsible with white spots that's always in my bag: seven!

I keep expecting the 6th Doctor to poke his head out from under it...

Simple, colourful, lovely. ♥

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-08-12 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
It would suit him! Cats (one black, one striped) poked their heads out when I was drawing it. Whenever I put up umbrellas to dry them, they rush under. It must be some caving instinct.

[identity profile] jaxomsride.livejournal.com 2011-08-12 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Lovely.
I have a leopard umbrella that I don't tend to use, it's too pretty to get wet. :¬D

If the colours are accurate, it looks like they put the purple shaded ones in in the wrong order, that's why it doesn't fit.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-08-12 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
Leopard is great! I had one once but it was one of the ones that got broken in high winds. The camouflage one went tot same way. Hence being careful about the ones I especially like.

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2011-08-12 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
It looks very colourful. :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-08-12 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
It brightens up winter, and is a good sun one too.

[identity profile] luinielle.livejournal.com 2011-08-12 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
What a wonderful colourful umbrella! That would definitely cheer up rainy days. :o) It's a beautiful drawing.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-08-12 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you, and it does. The map of the world one is in the same stand with it where they wait to be taken for walks. :-)
