30 Days Of Fan Fiction: Day 29 and Day 30

And here's the last post for this meme!

29 – What is your current project or projects?

A Blake's 7 AU story called Lightning Bolt in which Vila leaves the liberator and ends up getting his own ship and crew, while things are a bit different for the others without him. I wouldn't be surprised if I'm still writing this in the November [livejournal.com profile] picowrimo, especially since Multiverse is coming up.

30 – Do you have a favourite fic you've written? What makes it your favourite? And don't forget to give us a link

I'm hopeless at picking a favourite anything so I can't answer this. Do you have any favourites of my stuff? I'd be interested to know what appeals to people.

I want to read that so much! (It would have been very different on the Liberator without him, wouldn't it?)

Hm, as for favourites... It seems I fall hardest for your slightly more humorous stuff; the ones that have really stuck in my memory are "Beta Release", "Mistaken Identities" and, of course, "Beam me up" (though I'm not sure if that one counts, as I would be partial to it anyway because of our discussions)... :-) On the other hand, I've read a few of your short ones that hit me hard enough for tears, and while that means I might actually avoid re-reading them, that's because they were a bit too well written and not the other way around. Not sure if that counts as favourites, but I'm always deeply impressed whith things that can make me feel with that level of intensity.

I hope I've not given the impression of having a general aversion to anything dark or tragic or melancholy, because that would be very far from the truth. I can feel the attractions of the Dark Side all too well (though there are certain territories I avoid)... ;-) I've really enjoyed many of your more serious stories too (or sad ones, like the lovely one you just wrote me!) but for some reason it's those lighter ones that seem to stay with me. Perhaps because in my (admittedly limited) experience there isn't all that much well-written humour around (as opposed to an abundance of crack, which is enjoyable too, but in a rather different way.)

Again with other people's fic I probably woludn't choose the same one every time, it'd depend on mood (apart from Astro's "Bargaining Stage" and Jenner's "Swept and Garnished" which would always head any list). But with yours, Seven Gifts (http://www.farsight.net.nz/fiction/gifts.htm) would be a prime candidate.

You know, I almost didn't write that one. I thought it up one day and described it to Greg as too much of a tear-jerker to publish, but he convinced me to give it a go. I just reminded him of it, and he said he still really likes it. I'm glad he made me do it. :-)

Although I've enjoyed pretty much every fic of yours I've read, I think my favorite is probably still the first one I read. I think it was called "The Hand of Friendship" or something?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-07-31 09:34 am (UTC)(link)
Ah yes, the one where Vila had injured hands and Avon had to give him therapy. Thank you! And you got the title exactly right.

Wow...This thing went quickly.

And now I start 30 days of art...

Where did you find these I could join in with that?

Like Hafren, I really like Seven Gifts, and another favourite is the one where they're bought from an alien pet shop, but the story I imprinted on was Vila Restal's Emails. I'd never seen anything so funny and clever, that played so wittily with canon. Yes, I was new to fanfic, but that story more than stands the test of time. It's a classic.

You mean 'Pets' for the second one. I had so much fun writing that one. As for the Emails, I really had a lot of fun with those too and I'm glad they still stand up as they're the first fanfic I ever wrote. I kept being worried when I found B7 fanfic on line that someone else would have the same idea before I finished.

I would like to say I like all your stories equaly, but that isn't entirely true, Villa Restal's Emails lead the pack for me too but then the rest are all joint second.

Thank you! I'm glad that my first go at fanfic worked so well. :-D
