More stuff

I remembered a couple of things I was going to post about last time and couldn't think of.

Knitting party
This was at Spotlight on Saturday afternoon so I went along to see what it was. It was a group of people from a young girl who had just learned to older ladies sitting round a table knitting squares for blankets for the children's hospital while being plied with tea, coffee, biscuits, and mini chocolate bars. The conversation was excellent and I completed a sort of camo square with stripes. All yarn was also 20% off so I bought some but totally forgot I'd promised to make my sister a beret so I'll have to buy that at full price. Oh well.
One knitter said that Middlemore Hospital provides the yarn and needles for waiting visitors to use to make squares which I think is a great idea.

Largest Blake's 7 poll ever
This poll covers all forms of B7 (audio and books etc) in which "you can rate not only your favourite episodes, but your favourite audios and comics as well". I couldn't answer for a lot of those but I did vote for the episodes and novels at the top, the two old radio plays, then scrolled down to the title sequence ratings and answered from then on. There's a prize for one random voter. But anyway, have fun and express your opinion of Ben Steed. ;-)

Hit again
This depressed country has not just had earthquakes and floods but also a tornado in north Auckland. Enough already.

express your opinion of Ben Steed. ;-)

But there's no 'zero' option....

And yes, truly, surely we've had a sufficiency of natural disasters for a while now.

The knitting party sounds like fun. What a nice way to help a good cause.

Sorry to hear of another disaster in your country. Several of my family live in an area that is also having a lot of flooding and tornadoes. So far, they're okay, but I keep checking on them. Weather seems to be strange in many places. It is high desert where we live, normally very little rain. Last week, our county was under flood watch because of heavy rain + melting snow causing flooding in some areas.

I've never seen Blake's 7 but I've heard about it. Will try to watch it some time if I can find it.

Thanks! I'll check it out. :) We love old scifi. Some of it is still good; some of it is now hilarious. Either way, it's entertaining. ;D
A local tv station has the original (70s/80s) Battlestar Gallactica series on Saturday nights. That one seems more funny than good now, but I watch it once in awhile, just for fun.

So difficult to entertain the notion of a deadly tornado in Auckland. We were stunned when we saw the footage.

And yes, enough already. I trust all your people were fine?

B7 poll! Thank you for the heads up!

I was going to skip the poll, because I'm quite tired at the moment... then you reminded me I could call Steed a loser, and I went and completed it right away! It was rather hard rating Travis. I had to rate him down two points because of fakeTravis, alas.

Sorry to hear about the tornado. You guys need a break already.

Am smacking myself on the wrists now, for the poor taste of thinking that you've had an earth disaster, an air disaster, a water disaster, so what's next - a fire disaster? Last thing you need :-(

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-05-03 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
Ahahaha, yes, I was annoyed I couldn't give the bastard 0. I also want to see the results at some point. They should have allowed people to rate Travis twice, but I suppose he's only one character. :-P

We could do with a financial one, that's for sure. Hardly any jobs and those badly paid, but I bet we'd feel a lot better if things improved there. Yeah, fat chance.

Fires are one thing we don't get, though there are usually fire warnings for forests in summer.

[identity profile] zoefruitcake.livejournal.com 2011-05-03 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
I've voted :0)

Tornado can really really get stuffed :(

My rellies just headed back to NZ where they're living in temporary accomodation due to the quakes. Just seems a bit neverending :( Hope nature is gentler in the next few months.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-05-03 08:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, we get a few of them, but this is the worst for years. A friend lost part of his roof in a past one: woke up to a terrible noise and half of it was gone. Luckily the chimney fell into the driveway, not on the house.

I can't see it getting better with the misery of winter coming on. Yay, more floods. :-(

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-05-03 08:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yay, another Vila fan to support him! I just hope we get the results someday.

Have gone and done my fannish duty (and yes, The Stud got bottom marks :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-05-03 10:08 am (UTC)(link)
Excellent! Let's hope the results (if we see them) reflect people's opinion of the bastard.

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2011-05-03 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
The knitting party sounded interesting. :)

ZOMG the tornado. :( A horrible day.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-05-03 10:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, cars and roofs tossed around. I was just looking at footage of it crossing the road--and people were still driving on that road! I've have stopped well before that in sheer terror.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2011-05-03 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I voted. I couldn't resist when I saw they'd written 'conscious' where it should have been 'conscience'. If I was going to nit-pick, I felt I owed them my vote, too. :^)

Ben Steed ICK. My vote for bottom of the barrel went to him, too.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-05-03 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I missed that! Where was that, in the blurb? I admit I skimmed that. [goes to look] Yep, it was. I'm glad you caught it and told them.

Yay for putting BS (appropriate initials) in his place!

[identity profile] theyarnproject.livejournal.com 2011-05-04 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
I am glad you had fun, at the knitting party. It sounds like a real blast.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-05-04 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
There's another one in June. I'll go if I find out about it in time. :-)

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2011-05-04 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
You know, instead of thinking of it as a one, you could imagine the digit as a middle finger pointed in BS's direction. :^)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-05-04 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Excellent point!

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2011-05-04 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
The footage of it crossing the road was just freaky. :((

I suppose Pike River would have been the fire disaster :(

*blink* Yes, I think that's true, now that you mention it. I suppose I was thinking of it as another kind of earth disaster, given that a mine was involved, but explosions should count toward fire, sadly.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-05-04 09:08 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, true.
